International Friendly – Mexico vs Trinidad & Tobago: Recap and Highlights

Mexican national team logo/crestMexico beat Trinidad & Tobago 2-0 on Wednesday night in a pre-CONCACAF Nations League friendly.

El Tri put out a younger, less experienced team for this game – with eight of the starters earning their first cap for the senior national team and no one on the roster having more than five caps – but that proved no obstacle to beating T&T.

In the 23rd minute, Mexico took the lead. José Macías stole the ball in midfield, drove towards goal, cut past his defender, and fired El Tri ahead, 1-0.

Not long after that, Jesús Angulo made it 2-0 as he received the ball in the box and sent his low shot past the keeper to give El Tri a comfortable lead.

Mexico was in complete control; T&T mustered just one shot in the first half and they struggled to hold possession, with giveaways and mistakes leading to more chances for El Tri.

The second half was more of the same: a dominant Mexico, a disjointed Trinidad & Tobago. But despite creating 29 shots throughout the game, including 10 on goal, El Tri was unable to add to their lead, with the score stubbornly remaining 2-0.

Next up for El Tri is a Nations League match against Bermuda on October 11th.
