Chivas de Guadalajara vs Pumas UNAM – Jornada 13 Recap & Highlights

Chivas de Guadalajara took the lead but couldn’t hold it, as they went down to 9 players and Pumas UNAM came back for a 1-1 draw. The result extends El Rebaño’s winless streak to four games, but does at least bring their three-game losing streak to a halt, while the universitarios remain unbeaten in five.

Chivas was looking to recover after a painful loss in last weekend’s SuperClásico, while Pumas was looking for points to solidify their spot in the top eight. The game started off slowly, though, with few chances at either end as the two teams took each other’s measure.

Then, in the 31st minute, Alan Pulido went down in the box while getting into position for a cross. The referee originally waved play on, but afer consulting VAR, he awarded a penalty to Chivas. Pulido stepped up to take it himself, and he converted it to give Chivas the 1-0 lead in the 36th minute.

That goal energized Chivas, but Alfredo Saldívar came up big time and again in goal to keep Guadalajara from adding to their lead.

Then, in the 73rd minute, Alexis Vega was sent off after stepping on a prone Alan Mozo, leaving Chivas to see out the game with 10.

Pumas suddenly had an edge. In stoppage time, thy made it count. Carlos González headed home a long cross in the 91st minute to make it 1-1.

The game finished on another low note for Chivas as César Huerta was given his second yellow of the night and the subsequent red in the 93rd minute for a rash tackle.

With the 1-1 draw, Chivas reaches 12 points while Pumas reach 18.
