Santos Laguna vs Tijuana – Jornada 14 Recap & Highlights

Santos Laguna returned to the top of the table – pending the rest of this weekend’s results – with a comfortable 4-1 victory against Tijuana. The result snaps a two-game losing streak for the Guerreros, while the Xolos are now winless in two.

It took half an hour to find the breakthrough, but that opened the floodgates. In the 33rd minute, Diego Valdés got into the box and played the ball to Brian Lozano, whose diving header was saved by Manuel Gibrán Lajud – but the rebound fell to Valdés, who put it away to make it 1-0.

Then, in the 42nd minute, Valdés finished off a cross from Lozano to make it 2-0. The goal was reviewed for a possible foul in the build-up, but in the end it stood to double the hosts’ lead.

In first-half stoppage time, Julio César Furch made it 3-0 as a cross from the left made it all the way across the box – past both the defense and another attacker – for Furch to finish off at the far post.

Tijuana was reeling after conceding three goals in fifteen minutes, but they regrouped a bit at halftime, and in the 57th minute they were able to reduce the deficit as Erick Torres headed a cross past a frozen Jona Orozco to make it 3-1.

But the Xolos weren’t able to build on that goal; instead, Santos restored their three-goal advantage late on. In the 85th minute, Raúl Rivero was played in behind the defense, took a touch, and fired past Lajud to make it 4-1.

With the 4-1 win, Santos reaches 26 points while Tijuana still has 18.
