The game changed in the 21st minute, when, after VAR review, Jordan Silva was red-carded for a foul on Rogelio Funes Mori in the box. Not only were Tijuana down to 10, but they were facing a penalty kick. Nicolas Sánchez put away the spot kick to make it 0-1 for Monterrey.
Tijuana was unable to muster much of a reaction with their numerical disadvantage, but it wasn’t until the second half that the Rayados began to run up the score.
In the 57th minute, Jesús Gallardo got free on the left, got into the box, and laid the ball off for Rodolfo Pizarro, who turned, cut past a defender, and sent his shot into the upper corner to make it 0-2.
That opened up the floodgates. Funes Mori made it 0-3 in the 67th minute when he finished off a rebound given up by Manuel Gibrán Lajud, and then just two minutes after that, he scored again, this time from the top of the box, to give Monterrey the definitive 0-4 lead.
With the 0-4 win, Monterrey reaches 24 points while Tijuana still has 24.
