Puebla was already eliminated from playoff contention going into this one, while Necaxa had their own spot in the Liguilla locked up, but it was the hosts who came out looking stronger. In the 11th minute, Christian Marrugo played the ball to Christian Tabó at the top of the box, and the Uruguayan beat Hugo González to make it 1-0 for La Franja.
Tabó then scored his second of the night in the 34th minute, when he beat his defender to a low cross sent in from the left by Lucas Cavallini, lifting it over the keeper to make it 2-0.
The hosts continued to roll and in the 43rd minute the roles reversed, with Tabó flicking the ball on to Cavallini, who gave Puebla the 3-0 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, it looked like Necaxa would have a chance to get back into the game after Jesús Zavala was sent off in the 69th minute for a bad tackle on Jesús Angulo. However, even with their numerical advantage, the visitors weren’t able to reduce the deficit.
The result allowed Puebla to finish their season with a little pride, while Necaxa will now wait to see who they’ll face in the playoffs.
With the 3-0 win, Puebla reaches 17 points while Necaxa still has 31.
