Cruz Azul wrapped up their season on a positive note with a 3-1 victory against Atlético San Luis. Both teams were eliminated from playoff contention before kickoff, but La Máquina managed to end their Apertura with a second straight home victory, while the Potosinos end their season with back-to-back losses.
The hosts opened the scoring early on, with Milton Caraglio heading home a long free kick from Elías Hernández in the 10th minute to give Cruz Azul the 1-0 lead.
San Luis looked to respond, and in the 29th minute they found the equalizer. Juan Castro tried his luck from distance and beat Jesús Corona with a shot that grazed the post as it went in.
Parity lasted for the rest of the half, but Cruz Azul retook the lead shortly after the restart.
In the 53rd minute, Caraglio got on the board again, with another header – this time from the run of play as he finished off a cross from the left – to make it 2-1 for La Máquina.
Then, in the 63rd minute, a partially-cleared corner kick only made it as far as Pablo Aguilar at the top of the box; he brought the ball down off his chest and volleyed it into the back of the net to give Cruz Azul the definitive 3-1 lead.
With the 3-1 win, Cruz Azul reaches 23 points while San Luis still has 20.
