Monarcas Morelia took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Querétaro came back for a 3-1 win. Both teams were already qualified for the playoffs going into this game, but the victory moves the Gallos Blancos a bit higher in the table.
Neither team was able to find the breakthrough in the first half, but it was just five minutes into the second when Miguel Ángel Sansores gave Morelia the lead. He received the ball at the top of the box and got off an acrobatic shot that Gil Alcalá initially appeared to have saved, only for the ball to squirm past him and over the line to make it 0-1 for the visitors.
Querétaro responded quickly, though, in and in the 58th minute Ake Loba drove into the box and beat Luis Malagón to tie it up 1-1.
Ten minutes after that, Jeison Lucumí completed the comeback as he finished off a low cross at the top of the six-yard box, giving Querétaro the 2-1 lead in the 67th minute.
Then, in the 75th, Loba added an insurance goal. The hosts won a corner kick, which was headed into the post; the rebound fell to Loba, who buried it to make it 3-1 for Querétaro.
Morelia was unable to find a response to that barrage, and Querétaro comfortably saw out the rest of the game. Both teams will now be eyeing the rest of this weekend’s results to see who they’ll be taking on in the quarterfinals.
With the 3-1 win, Querétaro reaches 31 points while Morelia still has 27.
