Atlético San Luis made their home-field advantage count with a 2-1 victory against Cruz Azul. The result gives the Potosinos their first win of the Clausura 2020 and keeps them unbeaten, while La Máquina remains winless.
San Luis started the game off strongly, with Nicolás Ibáñez testing Jesús Corona early; Matías Catalán also looked dangerous in the final third. In the 27th minute, the game was briefly interrupted by a dog running onto the field, but Germán Berterame scooped up the friendly pup and carried it over to a steward and play quickly resumed.
A set piece gave the hosts the lead in the 36th minute. Luis Reyes drove in a free kick from distance, and although it initially looked harmless, a deflection off the defense left Jesús Corona unable to respond. 1-0 for San Luis.
The visitors were able to respond in the second half, though. Roberto Alvarado played in Jonathan Rodríguez, who flicked he ball past his defender before beating Carlos Felipe Rodríguez from just inside the box to tie the game 1-1 in the 62nd minute.
But San Luis retook the lead in the 75th minute through Berterame, whose low shot from outside the box beat Corona to make it 2-1.
With the 2-1 win, San Luis reaches points while Cruz Azul still has zero.
