Tigres started the game off strongly, but they lost some momentum after captain Guido Pizarro had to leave the field with an injury after just 10 minutes. América got stronger as the game went on and they created several good chances but couldn’t beat Nahuel Guzmán. Memo Ochoa made some good saves of his own at the other end as both goalkeepers shone in the first 45.
The second half started off evenly, but soon the balance started shifting in favor of the hosts. Tigres continued to create some chances, but the more persistent and more threatening attack was América’s.
The Águilas found their reward in the 69th minute. Giovani dos Santos got free on the left and sent a low cross in for Henry Martín, who stabbed it home to make it 1-0 for América.
Tigres looked for a response and came as close as hitting the post, but they couldn’t find the equalizer and América held on for the victory.
With the 1-0 win, América reaches three points while Tigres still have one.
