Neither team could find the breakthrough in this one as Tijuana and América played out a 0-0 draw. The result keeps the Xolos unbeaten at home this season – but winless in two overall – while the Águilas remain unbeaten overall.
The visitors quickly found a good chance through Giovani dos Santos, but he couldn’t beat the onrushing Manuel Gibrán Lajud and the opportunity went begging. At the other end, Miler Bolaños forced a good save out of Memo Ochoa as the two teams traded chances.
Tijuana had the better of the run of play in the first half, but neither Bolaños nor Camilo Sanvezzo could open the scoring despite several opportunities. América resisted the pressure, and in the second half they began to look more dangerous themselves, especially after the insertion of Leo Suárez.
But as time wore on, the game became increasingly bogged down and there seemed to be more fouls than goal-scoring chances.
In the waning moments, it looked like América would have the chance to take the lead from the penalty spot after an apparent handball in Tijuana’s box, but after VAR review nothing was called and the game remained deadlocked.
With the 0-0 draw, Tijuana and América both reach four points.
