The game started off perfectly for the hosts, who took the lead just 1 minute 26 seconds after kickoff. Dorlan Pabón put the Rayados in front with a shot from outside the box into the upper corner, putting Santos Laguna in an immediate hole.

Necaxa vs Querétaro – Quarterfinal First Leg Recap & Highlights

Necaxa took a commanding lead in the first leg of this quarterfinal series with a 3-0 victory against Querétaro.

The game started off a little slowly, with a good deal of play taking place in midfield. Neither team was able to take firm control, and while they both created a few chances, none of them were particularly dangerous.

Monarcas Morelia vs León – Quarterfinal First Leg Recap & Highlights

In the first leg of their Apertura 2019 quarterfinal series, León took the lead three times but ultimately couldn’t hold it as Monarcas Morelia scored deep into stoppage time to tie the game 3-3.

The game was full of controversy from start to finish. In just the 4th minute, referee José Antonio Peñaloza turned to VAR after José Juan Macías was brought down in the box, ultimately awarding León a penalty kick. Macías stepped up to take the penalty himself, and he converted it to give the visitors the 0-1 lead in the 7th minute.

Apertura 2019 Quarterfinals – First Legs: Where to Watch

Liga MX logoThe Apertura 2019 playoffs get underway this week with the first legs of the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinals are two-legged, aggregate-goal series; away goals are tiebreakers. If both the aggregate and the away goals are tied at the end of the second leg, the higher seed will advance.

The first legs are hosted by the lower seeds and will be played on Wednesday and Thursday.

Paulo Pezzolano Announced as Coach of Pachuca

After parting ways with Martín Palermo, Pachuca wasted no time in announcing his replacement: Paulo Pezzolano.

The 36-year-old Uruguayan joins Pachuca from Liverpool in his native country, where he won the Torneo Intermedio 2019; before that, he coached Torque, also in Uruguay, and won the Segunda División title with that club.

Pezzolano has some experience with Mexican soccer as well; he played for Necaxa in 2012.

Apertura 2019 Week 19 Standings & Statistics

The Apertura 2019 regular season has wrapped up with Santos Laguna remaining in first place after their 2-2 draw with Toluca, and Veracruz remaining in last after their 3-1 loss to Chivas.

Monarcas Morelia and Monterrey grabbed the final two playoff spots to join Necaxa, América, León, Tigres UANL, Querétaro, and Santos Laguna in the postseason.

In the relegation fight, Veracruz remained in last place in the Tabla de Cociente with their loss, while relegation rivals San Luis and FC Juárez also lost and Querétaro and Chivas de Guadalajara won.

FC Juárez vs Tigres UANL – Jornada 19 Recap & Highlights

Tigres UANL ensured the best possible seeding for the playoffs with a 1-2 victory against FC Juárez in the final regular season game of the Apertura 2019. The result sends the universitarios into the playoffs on the back of an eight-game unbeaten streak, while the Bravos saw their season end on a sour note with a home loss.

The game started off well for the visitors, who took the lead in just the 6th minute. Tigres worked the ball into the box and eventually to André-Pierre Gignac, who volleyed it home to make it 0-1 for the universitarios.

Martín Palermo Out at Pachuca

After Pachuca failed to qualify for the playoffs, the club wasted no time in announcing the departure of coach Martín Palermo. In a press release posted to the Tuzos’ twitter account, the club noted that Palermo’s contract had finished and it was decided “by mutual agreement” not to extend it.

Toluca vs Santos Laguna – Jornada 19 Recap & Highlights

In a game where both teams had the lead at one time or another, Toluca and Santos Laguna ultimately had to settle for a 2-2 draw. With the Laguneros already having locked up first place in the table, and with the Diablos Rojos long since out of playoff contention, there wasn’t much for either side to play for in this one.

Nevertheless, the game started off at a good pace and the visitors soon took the lead. In the 9th minute, Santos won a free kick just outside the box, and Diego Valdés sent it curving past Alfredo Talavera to make it 0-1 for the Laguneros.
