Disciplinary Committee Ruling

A confrontation between Miguel Ángel Ponce of Chivas de Guadalajara and Jesús Dueñas of Tigres UANL at the end of the second leg of the Gran Final sparked an investigation by the Disciplinary Committee, which has now made its ruling.

The Committee has suspended both Ponce and Dueñas for one game and has also fined both players an undisclosed amount.

Disciplinary Committee Opens Investigation

The Disciplinary Committee has opened an investigation into an incident at the end of the Gran Final second leg between Chivas de Guadalajara and Tigres UANL.

At the conclusion of the game, Miguel Ángel Ponce struck Jesús Dueñas in the back of the head, which led to an infuriated Dueñas chasing Ponce across the field.

Monterrey Appeals Stadium Ban

At the conclusion of Monterrey’s 0-2 loss to Tigres UANL in the second leg of their quarterfinal series (Tigres won 6-1 on aggregate), there were “incidents in the stands and exit areas of the Estadio BBVA Bancomer between fans of both teams”.

Following an investigation into those incidents, the Disciplinary Committee fined Monterrey and gave the club a one-game stadium ban on the Estadio BBVA Bancomer.

The Rayados have appealed the stadium ban and the Appeals Committee will meet to evaluate the case.

Chivas de Guadalajara beat Tigres UANL 2-1 (4-3 aggregate) to claim the Clausura 2017 league title, their 12th, and prevent the universitarios from claiming the bicampeonato.

The 2-2 first leg draw left everything to play for tonight by setting up a simple winner-takes-all scenario.

The visitors had the first dangerous chance of the game in the 13th minute, when Ismael Sosa found an unmarked Jürgen Damm in the box, but Rodolfo Cota made a good save to deny Damm the opening goal.

Chivas de Guadalajara Wins 12th League Title

Chivas de Guadalajara beat Tigres UANL 2-1 (4-3 aggregate) to win the Clausura 2017 league title.

El Rebaño entered the Liguilla as the third seed, and they defeated sixth-seeded Atlas and fourth-seeded Toluca in the quarter- and semi- finals, respectively, to set up a meeting with seventh-seeded Tigres in the Gran Final.

Clausura 2017 Final – Second Leg: Where to Watch

The Clausura 2017 champion will be decided on Sunday night when Chivas de Guadalajara hosts Tigres UANL in the decisive second leg of the Gran Final.

Thursday’s first leg finished in a 2-2 draw, which leaves the series delicately balanced. There are no tiebreakers in the Gran Final, so any aggregate draw will send the game to extra time and then penalties if needed; the second leg is therefore a winner-takes-all affair.

Miguel Herrera Returns to Coach América
