Disciplinary Committee Investigates Novaretti

The Disciplinary Committee has opened an investigation into Diego Novaretti of León following the club’s friendly game against Santos Laguna on March 22nd.

In the friendly, held in Toyota Park in Chicago during Liga MX’s international break, Novaretti pushed referee Rosendo Bermúdez and was promptly red-carded.

León lost the game 4-0.

Based on Article 83, Paragraph 1 of the Regulations for Sanctions, the Disciplinary Committee has indefinitely suspended Novaretti while the investigation Continue reading

Juan Antonio Luna New Coach of Veracruz

Veracruz has announced that Juan Antonio Luna has been named head coach of the Tiburones Rojos for the remainder of the Clausura 2017 season. He will be joined by assistant coach Cristóbal Ortega.

Disciplinary Report: Clausura 2017 Week 11

The Disciplinary Committee has suspended five players and one coach in the aftermath of this weekend’s Jornada 11 games.

Miguel Herrera, coach of Tijuana, will be sidelined for the Xolos’ next two games. Herrera was given a one-game suspension for constantly protesting the referee crew’s decisions and another for a lack of respect towards the match officials.

Clausura 2017 Week 11 Statistics

Chivas de Guadalajara remained in first place with their 2-0 victory against Veracruz, while León remained last with their 2-3 loss to Toluca.

In the relegation fight, Veracruz remained last in the Tabla de Cociente with their loss, while relegation rivals Puebla also lost, Jaguares de Chiapas drew, and Monarcas Morelia won.

Puebla vs Monarcas Morelia – Jornada 11 Recap and Highlights

In this relegation six-pointer, a last-minute goal gave Monarcas Morelia the 0-1 away win against Puebla. The result is a second straight victory for Morelia and keeps them unbeaten in three, while Puebla has now lost two in a row.

Neither team wanted to lose this game far more than either one wanted to win it. Play was decidedly cautious for long stretches of the game, and goal-scoring chances didn’t begin to appear in earnest until the second half.

Pumas UNAM vs América – Jornada 11 Recap and Highlights

América let a two-goal lead slip, but a late goal by Cecilio Domínguez gave the Águilas a 2-3 victory against Pumas UNAM. The result keeps América unbeaten in three while Pumas suffered their first home loss of the season.

The universitarios started the game off better as they looked to take advantage of América’s absentees, as well as the forced substitution of the injured Miguel Samudio. In the 18th minute, they nearly opened the scoring when Jesús Gallardo found an open Nicolás Castillo, but he couldn’t put his shot on frame.

Necaxa vs Jaguares de Chiapas – Jornada 11 Recap and Highlights

Both teams had the lead at one time or another, but in the end Necaxa and Jaguares de Chiapas had to settle for a 2-2 draw. The result keeps the Rayos unbeaten in three but winless in four, while Jaguares remain winless in two and winless in four on the road.

With both teams involved in the relegation fight, there was plenty of motivation on both sides to earn a victory. Necaxa seized the initiative and began to test Moisés Muñoz, with Edson Puch having the first opportunity of the night.

Chivas de Guadalajara reclaimed first place in the table with a 2-0 victory over Veracruz. The win is a second consecutive one for El Rebaño, while the Tiburones Rojos have now lost five in a row.

Chivas started the game off strongly and nearly opened the scoring just a minute in, when Alan Pulido found Ángel Zaldívar, but Pedro Gallese was able to react and save Zaldívar’s attempt on the line.

A late goal gave Toluca a 2-3 away win against León. The victory ends a two-game losing streak for the Diablos Rojos, while León remains winless in eight and rooted to the foot of the table. 

Desperate to end their poor run of form, León took the initiative early on. However, their forays down the wings didn’t translate into goals, and as time passed Toluca settled into the game and began to press their lines higher up the field.
