CONCACAF Nations League: Mexico vs Panama – Recap & Highlights

CONCACAF Nations League logoMexico made it two wins out of two as they downed Panama 3-1 on Tuesday night. The victory moves Mexico into sole possession of first place in Group B, while Panama and Bermuda remain tied on three points.

Panama was hoping to provide a steeper test than Bermuda did this past Friday, but Mexico looked comfortable from the start. After enjoying the majority of possession, El Tri took the lead in the 28th minute through Roberto Alvarado, whose shot from the top of the box made it 1-0 for the hosts.

CONCACAF Nations League: Mexico vs Panama – Where to Watch

CONCACAF Nations League logoThe group stage of the CONCACAF Nations League continues this week with Mexico hosting Panama in Group B play.

Mexico had their first game in the competition this past Friday, where they beat Bermuda 5-1 away. That was enough to put El Tri in first place in the group based on goal difference; Panama and Bermuda split their series last month, leaving all three teams with three points.

Mexico will now look to take definitive control of the group with a home victory in this one.

CONCACAF Nations League logoAs expected, Mexico easily beat Bermuda in their 2019 CONCACAF Nations League opener, with El Tri running out 5-1 victors.

Mexico controlled possession from the opening whistle, but it took them 25 minutes to find the breakthrough. That was when Hirving Lozano played in Uriel Antuna, who took the ball past the onrushing keeper and knocked it into the empty net to make it 1-0 for the visitors.

CONCACAF Nations League – Bermuda vs Mexico: Where to Watch

Mexico starts their participation in the 2019 CONCACAF Nations League this Friday with a visit to Bermuda. Mexico and Bermuda are in Group B of the tournament, alongside Panama.

The group stage started in September, where Panama and Bermuda faced off twice, splitting the series: Panama won 4-1 away on September 5th, and then Bermuda won 2-0 away on September 8th.

Mexico is expected to roll past Bermuda, but the Gombey Warriors will hope to build on their victory against Panama with a positive result here. As for El Tri, they’ll go top of the group if they win by more than one goal, and they’ll be looking to score a lot more than that here.

Mexico Announces Roster for October Nations League Matches

Mexican national team logo/crestMexico was drawn into Group B in the inaugural CONCACAF Nations League, and their participation in the tournament starts this Friday.

The Nations League tournament involves all 41 teams in CONCACAF and features three divisions – Leagues A, B, and C – with four groups apiece. The top 10 qualifiers for the Nations League also earned spots in the 2019 Gold Cup, where they joined the six teams who already qualified as Hexagonal participants in 2018 World Cup qualifying. Starting for the 2021 Gold Cup, all teams will have to qualify through the Nations League and there will be no automatic berths given.

Mexico is in Group B of the League A tournament, along with Panama and Bermuda. Mexico will open their participation by visiting Bermuda on October 11th, after which they will host Panama on October 15th. Coach Gerardo Martino has called up 19 players for October’s games.
