The first half was hard-fought, with most of the play occurring in midfield, but Cruz Azul had the edge in possession and had more attacking opportunities. They couldn’t find the breakthrough, though, and the game went to halftime still tied 0-0.
Tijuana earned their first home win of the Apertura with a 1-0 victory against Pumas UNAM. The result keeps the Xolos unbeaten at home this season, while the universitarios have now lost two in a row.
The hosts took the lead early and never relinquished it. In the 9th minute, Miler Bolaños was played into the box and sent a low cross towards the far post for Camilo Sanvezzo, who slotted it home to make it 1-0 for the Xolos.
Veracruz took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Atlas came back for a 1-2 away win. The result extends the Tiburones Rojos’ record-setting league winless streak to 30 games, while the Rojinegros remain perfect on the road in the Apertura.
The game – for once – started off well for Veracruz. In the 10th minute, they earned a corner kick that turned into a goal, with Cristian Menéndez heading the ball home to make it 1-0 with his first goal in 10 months.
After the second half was delayed 40 minutes due to lightning, Monterrey scored late to earn a 0-1 away win against 10-man Monarcas Morelia. The result gives the Rayados a second straight victory, while the michoacanos remain winless at home in the Apertura.
Both teams had chances in the first half. In the 10th minute, Gabriel Achilier slipped and fell in the box while trying to defend against Rogelio Funes Mori, but he couldn’t take advantage as he failed to find the target with his attempt.

Cruz Azul’s Jonathan Rodríguez, Querétaro’s George Corral, and Puebla’s Lucas Cavallini were all given one-game suspensions for serious foul play.
Puebla filed a petition of non-conformity regarding Cavallini’s red card, which the Disciplinary Committee overturned. However, Puebla appealed the Committee’s decision and the Appeals Commission is now meeting to make a determination.
Santos is the only perfect team remaining, while Querétaro and América are also unbeaten; on the other hand, Cruz Azul, Puebla, Pachuca, Toluca, and Veracruz are all winless.
Veracruz remained in last place in the Tabla de Cociente with their loss, while relegation rivals Querétaro and FC Juárez won and Chivas de Guadalajara drew; Atlético San Luis had a bye.
