2019-2020 Copa MX Quarterfinals – First Legs: Where to Watch

Copa MX logoThe knockout rounds of the 2019-2020 Copa MX continue this week with the first legs of the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinals consist of a total goals, aggregate score series; away goals are not tiebreakers. Should the aggregate be tied at the end of the second leg, the winner will be determined by penalty kicks – no extra time will be played.

Pumas UNAM is the only unbeaten team remaining while Monterrey remains winless.

Atlas vs Monarcas Morelia – Jornada 5 Recap & Highlights

Atlas logo "vs" Morelia logoMonarcas Morelia earned a comfortable away win on Thursday night as they beat 10-man Atlas 1-3. The result gives the michoacanos their first win of the Clausura 2020, while the Rojinegros have now lost three of their last four.

Chances were few and far between in the first half, but Morelia was able to grab the lead in the 36th minute. From a corner kick, Aldo Rocha knocked the ball back into the center, where Fernando Aristeguita sent a bicycle kick towards goal for José Cortes got an unconventional final touch with his stomach to make it 0-1.

Necaxa vs Monterrey – Jornada 1 Recap & Highlights

Necaxa logo "vs" Monterrey logoMonterrey took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Necaxa scored in stoppage time to salvage a 2-2 draw in this rescheduled Jornada 1 match. The result keeps the Rayos unbeaten this season, while the reigning champion Rayados remain winless.

While Monterrey were looking for their first win of the season to move out of last place in the table, Necaxa had the chance to move into first with a victory of their own. The game started at a good pace and it didn’t take long for the breakthrough, with Monterrey scoring in the 14th minute. Rogelio Funes Mori cut past Rodrigo Noya, drew out the keeper, and cut the ball back for Miguel Layún, whose first-time finish made it 0-1.

Puebla vs América – Jornada 1 Recap & Highlights

Puebla logo "vs" América logoIn this rescheduled Jornada 1 match, América earned a 0-1 away win against Puebla. The result ends a two-game winless streak for the Águilas, while the Poblanos have now lost three in a row.

The hosts started the game off better, but they were unable to capitalize on their advantage while they had it, with Memo Ochoa making several good saves to keep América from falling behind. Then VAR review saw Puebla come off worse for wear twice; first, when Jesús Zavala’s would-be goal was determined to have been stopped by Ochoa on the line, and then when a penalty call was changed to a free kick just outside the box.

Disciplinary Report: Clausura 2020 Week 4

Jorge Sánchez of América and Aldo Cruz of Tijuana were given one-game suspensions for serious foul play.

Pedro Aquino of León was given a one-game suspension for receiving two yellow cards in the same match.

Clausura 2020 Week 1: Rescheduled Matches – Where to Watch

Liga MX logoJornada 1 of the Clausura 2020 season featured an abbreviated slate of matches, with the season openers for the Apertura 2019 finalists – Monterrey and América – postponed.

That decision was made to allow the finalists a bit of rest before the new season, since – due to Monterrey’s participation in the FIFA Club World Cup – the second leg of the final was played just two weeks before the start of the Clausura.

That little bit of extra rest hasn’t seemed particularly helpful so far; with three games under their respective belts, Monterrey is winless and has earned just a single point, while América has a 1-1-1 record.

Atlas vs Tijuana – Jornada 4 Recap & Highlights

Atlas logo "vs" Tijuana logoAtlas took, lost, and regained the lead as they beat 10-man Tijuana 2-1 in an empty Estadio Jalisco. The game was played behind closed doors as punishment for fans’ homophobic chanting in the Rojinegros’ last home game. The result snaps a two-game losing streak for Atlas, while the Xolos are now winless in three.

Atlas came out looking to get their season back on track in their first game under new coach Rafa Puente, who took over just yesterday. The breakthrough came in the 29th minute, when Luciano Acosta scored a golazo of a free kick to make it 1-0 for the hosts.
