León earned their first home win of the season with a 2-0 victory against 10-man Cruz Azul. The result gives La Fiera a two-game winning streak, while La Máquina saw their own two-game winning streak halted.
León started the game off well, and Ángel Mena in particular was dangerous for the hosts. In the 18th minute, Mena gave León the lead from the penalty spot. Yoshimar Yotún was called for a foul in the box, which – after VAR review – ended with a red card for Yotún and a penalty for León.
A penalty kick proved the difference in this one as Cruz Azul earned a 0-1 away win against Tigres UANL. The result ends the universitarios’ unbeaten start to the season and gives La Máquina their first win.
The hots had the first good chance of the game in the 11th minute, when they stole the ball as Cruz Azul tried to play out of the back. Julián Quiñones played in Enner Valencia, but his low shot was saved well by Jesús Corona.
Pumas UNAM vs Pachuca – 5:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Pumas UNAM (1st) beat Atlas 3-0 last weekend to remain perfect this season. The universitarios did stumble in midweek, however, where they suffered a 1-3 loss to Necaxa in the Copa MX. Pumas will look to set that aside and refocus on league play here as they aim to extend their unbeaten start to the season and remain in first place. They have the best goalscoring record in the league with an impressive 10 goals from just three games, and they’ll look for more goals against a struggling team in this one.
As for Pachuca (18th), the Tuzos fell 1-3 to América last weekend to keep them winless this season. Pachuca has yet to pick up even a single point in league play, and they’ve only scored one goal – a penalty. The Tuzos are getting increasingly desperate to get their season on track, but an away game against the league leaders is not the ideal place to pick up a victory. They’ll hope to be underestimated here in search of a surprise win, and they’ll have the slight advantage of being a bit fresher after not having played a midweek game.
