The hosts put out a strong lineup and they took the lead shortly before the half-hour mark. In the 27th minute, Tigres earned a free kick and Herediano was unable to clear it away, with Hugo Ayala pouncing on the rebound to make it 1-0.

Javier Hernández moved a step closer to tying Jared Borgetti as Mexico’s all-time leading goalscorer when he scored his 45th international goal in the 18th minute to put El Tri ahead. “Chicharito” headed home a cross from “Tecatito” Corona to make it 1-0 for Mexico.
With two goals in the closing stages of the game, Mexico earned a 3-1 victory over Uruguay to claim first place in Group C after the opening round of matches. In a testy game that finished 10 vs 10, El Tri was able to extend their winning streak to 10 matches and their unbeaten streak to 20.
The night started off badly for Uruguay, even before the game kicked off: the Chilean national anthem was played in place of the Uruguayan one during the pre-game ceremonies. Things did not improve for La Celeste when the match got underway, as Mexico took the lead after just three minutes.
Gremio defeated Toluca 1-0 on Tuesday night in the final Group 6 game. Both teams were already assured of a spot in the knockout rounds prior to tonight, and with first place in the group locked up, Toluca sent a somewhat alternative side to Brazil. The loss ends the Diablos Rojos’ unbeaten run in this competition.
