Atlas vs Jaguares de Chiapas – Jornada 17 Recap and Highlights

Jaguares de Chiapas earned a 0-1 victory over Atlas in their final Liga MX game, but it wasn’t enough to keep them in the first division as Monarcas Morelia’s own victory ensured Jaguares’ relegation.

Despite the loss, Atlas’s playoff place was already ensured and the Rojinegros will be in the Liguilla.

Jaguares de Chiapas Relegated

Jaguares de Chiapas won their final game of the Clausura 2017 season, 0-1 against Atlas, but that victory was not enough to save them after Monarcas Morelia earned a dramatic win of their own.

Jaguares finish the season with a point-per-game average of 1.1471, the product of 117 points from 102 games – just one point less than Monarcas Morelia, who finished with 118 points from their 102 games, and level with Veracruz, who won the tiebreaker due to their superior goal difference.

Jaguares has had a turbulent history in recent years, including the original Jaguares de Chiapas team being relocated to Querétaro in 2013 while San Luis was brought in to become, officially, Chiapas Fútbol Club, the current Jaguares de Chiapas incarnation.

Clausura 2017 Relegation Watch: One Game Remaining

The Clausura 2017 relegation fight will be decided on the final day. With one game left to play, relegation has come down to Jaguares de Chiapas and Monarcas Morelia.

Mathematically, Veracruz is still technically involved in the fight, but in reality the Tiburones Rojos are essentially safe as the only way they could be relegated is if they lose, Morelia and Jaguares both win, and Jaguares manage to overturn a 12-goal deficit in goal difference.

Disciplinary Report: Clausura 2017 Week 16

The Disciplinary Committee has suspended two players and an assistant coach and opened an investigation in the aftermath of this weekend’s Jornada 16 games.

The two suspended players both belong to Monterrey, with Iván Piris receiving a one-game suspension for receiving two yellow cards in the same game while Jesús Molina was suspended for yellow-card accumulation after picking up his fifth caution of the season.

Jaguares de Chiapas vs Santos Laguna – Jornada 16 Recap and Highlights

An entertaining game where both teams had the lead at one time or another was marred at the end as it all degenerated into chaos and violence. Jaguares fans ran on to the field in stoppage time and then fought with police in and around the stands, with several injuries to security personnel. After a 14-minute delay, the final few minutes were able to be played, with the game ultimately finishing 2-2 between Jaguares de Chiapas and Santos Laguna.

The point is a valuable one for Jaguares in the relegation fight, which is now down to the Chiapanecos and Monarcas Morelia; tonight’s draw mathematically ensures Veracruz’s safety.

Querétaro vs Jaguares de Chiapas – Jornada 15 Recap and Highlights

Querétaro twice took the lead and twice failed to hold it as they drew 2-2 with Jaguares de Chiapas. The result leaves Jaguares winless in seven, but they did earn what could prove to be a very valuable point in the relegation fight. As for the Gallos Blancos, they are now winless in five.

The hosts quickly began to find dangerous chances, with Ángel Sepúlveda missing an empty net from close range in the 5th minute after Camilo Sanvezzo set him up. But Querétaro didn’t have to wait much longer to open the scoring, and in the 10 minute Sepúlveda finished off a cross from Jaime Gómez to make it 1-0.

Jaguares de Chiapas vs Tijuana – Jornada 14 Recap and Highlights

Jaguares de Chiapas took the lead but couldn’t hold it as they fell 1-2 to Tijuana on Saturday night. The result keeps Jaguares winless in six while the Xolos have now won two in a row and are unbeaten in five.

The first half was a cagey affair, with neither team able to really put their stamp on the game. Although there were a handful of chances at both ends, the final touch was lacking. Jaguares had a promising-looking chance when Luis Leal was played in, but Juan Carlos Valenzuela was able to intervene.

Jaguares de Chiapas vs León – Jornada 10 Recap and Highlights

Jaguares de Chiapas saw their winless streak extended to five games with tonight’s 0-0 draw against León. The result halts La Fiera’s two-game winning streak but keeps them unbeaten in three.

The game started off slowly, with both teams settling into a more cautious posture. It wasn’t until the half-hour mark that dangerous chances started to appear; the first good opportunity fell to the hosts, who mounted a dangerous counterattack. Luis Silva got around William Yarbrough, but couldn’t find the target from an acute angle.
