Tigres UANL earned their first away win of the season with a 0-2 victory against Querétaro. The result keeps the universitarios unbeaten in six overall, while the Gallos Blancos are now winless in three.
The first half was a largely even affair between two teams who came in to tonight’s game with the same number of points. Marcel Ruiz had the best chance of the half with his shot from the edge of the box, but the midfielder was stopped by the woodwork as the game remained goalless.
Atlas finally earned their first victory of the Apertura 2018 with a 2-0 win against 10-man Toluca. The result snaps a six-game losing streak for the Rojinegros, while the Diablos Rojos saw their three-game winning streak halted.
With Atlas’s supporters’ groups absenting themselves from the stadium in protest, the pressure on the hosts to find their first victory of the season was higher than ever. Toluca looked the stronger team and created a few notable goal-scoring chances, but José Hernández made the necessary saves to keep the game goalless.
León scored early and often as they picked up a 0-4 away win against Veracruz. The result snaps a three-game losing streak for La Fiera while the Tiburones Rojos are now winless in four.
The night started off perfectly for the visitors, who took the lead in just the third minute. Jean Meneses scooped the ball up towards the far post and Mauro Boselli was there to had it home and make it 0-1 for León very early on.
The Disciplinary Committee has suspended six players, upheld a red card appeal, and opened an investigation in the aftermath of this weekend’s Jornada 11 games.
The standout suspension goes to Nicolás Sánchez of Monterrey, who will miss the next two games due to serious foul play, while Paul Aguilar of América was given a one-game suspension for the same reason.
Santos Laguna remained in first place in the table with their 3-2 win against Monterrey, while Atlas remained last despite their 1-0 victory against Puebla.
América remains the only unbeaten team this season.
In the relegation fight, Veracruz remained last with their 2-0 loss to Monarcas Morelia, while relegation rivals Lobos BUAP also lost, Querétaro drew, and Atlas won. Puebla is now mathematically assured of safety.
Santos Laguna remained top of the table with a 3-2 victory against Monterrey. The result is a third straight win for the Laguneros, who remain unbeaten at home this season, while the Rayados have now lost two in a row and three of their last four.
The game started off perfectly for Monterrey before going off the rails. The visitors took the lead in just the 2nd minute, when Rogelio Funes Mori’s shot from outside the box beat Jonathan Orozco with the help of a deflection off Jorge Villafaña to make it 0-1.
A late own-goal gave Toluca a 0-1 away win against Pumas UNAM. The result is a fourth straight victory for the Diablos Rojos while the universitarios suffered their second consecutive loss and are now winless in five.
Pumas could get little going in attack as Nicolás Castillo and Matías Alustiza looked disconnected from the rest of the team while a well-organized Toluca back line easily cut out the few opportunities the hosts created.
