Disciplinary Report: Apertura 2019 Week 12

The Disciplinary Committee has suspended three players and one coach and fined a team in the aftermath of this weekend’s Jornada 12 games.

The standout suspension goes to Antonio Briseño of Chivas de Guadalajara, who will miss the next four matches. Briseño was given a two-game suspension for serious foul play, with an additional two games added on, per Article 74 of the Regulations for Sanctions, due to the severity of the foul and the injury to Giovani dos Santos that resulted from it.

Apertura 2019 Week 12 Standings & Statistics

Santos Laguna remained in first place despite their 2-0 loss to Pumas UNAM, while Veracruz remained in last after their 1-1 draw with Toluca.

Veracruz remains the only winless team.

Veracruz remained in last place in the Tabla de Cociente as well, while relegation rivals San Luis, Querétaro, and Chivas de Guadalajara also lost, and FC Juárez drew.

América vs Chivas de Guadalajara – Jornada 12 Recap & Highlights

América beat 9-man Chivas de Guadalajara 4-1 in the SuperClásico, but it wasn’t all good news for the Águilas as Giovani dos Santos was carried off with a nasty-looking injury. The result snaps a six-game winless run for América and keeps them unbeaten in four, while El Rebaño has now lost three in a row.

América started the game off better and Sebastián Córdova was dangerous from the beginning. The 22-year-old opened the scoring in the 18th minute as he finished off a low cross from Roger Mártinez to make it 1-0 for the hosts.

Necaxa vs FC Juárez – Jornada 12 Recap & Highlights

Neither team could find the breakthrough in this one as Necaxa and FC Juárez played out a 0-0 draw. The result keeps the Rayos unbeaten in two while the Bravos are now unbeaten in three.

The hosts came out attacking and had a pair of early opportunities, but they couldn’t convert them. Then, in the 15th minute, Diego Rolán nearly gave Juárez the lead with his header, but it ended up going over the bar.

Monterrey vs Tigres UANL – Jornada 12 Recap & Highlights

Tigres UANL claimed the bragging rights in this rivalry with a 0-2 away win against Monterrey in the 123rd edition of the Clásico Regio. The result snaps a six-game winless run for the universitarios, while the Rayados are now winless in two.

Monterrey came out looking to get back to winning ways at home, but it was Tigres who had the first notable chance of the game. André-Pierre Gignac tested Marcelo Barovero with a shot from distance, which the keeper punched out for a corner kick.

Pachuca vs Cruz Azul – Jornada 12 Recap & Highlights

Pachuca wrapped up a perfect week with a 2-0 win against Cruz Azul. The result is a third straight victory for the Tuzos, who are unbeaten in four, while La Máquina are now winless in seven.

An open first half saw chances at both ends, but when the breakthrough came it was for the hosts. In the 29th minute, Víctor Guzmán received the ball on the left, drove into the box, cut past his defender, and fired past Jesús Corona to make it 1-0 for Pachuca.

Atlas vs Querétaro – Jornada 12 Recap & Highlights

Atlas climbed into the playoff places – pending the rest of this weekend’s results – with a 2-0 victory against Querétaro. The result ends the Rojinegros’ three-game winless streak, while the Gallos Blancos have now lost two in a row and are winless in four.

Atlas started the game off better and got forward into the attack, although shots by Osvaldo Martínez and Jairo Torres were more hopeful than dangerous. It ended up being an own-goal that gave the hosts the lead, with the unfortunate Alexis Pérez trying to clear a cross and instead sending it into his own net to make it 1-0 for Atlas.

Puebla vs León – Jornada 12 Recap & Highlights

Two games in four days proved no problem at all for Puebla, who earned another surprise result with a 2-1 win against León. The result is a second straight win for the Poblanos, while La Fiera saw their seven-game unbeaten run halted.

Puebla was looking to build on their midweek win when they returned home for this one, but the game started off slowly. Neither team could take control or even create much of note going forward, with the few attempts either off-target or straight to the goalkeepers.

Clausura 2019 Week 12 Standings & Statistics

León remained in first place with their 2-3 win against Morelia, while Veracruz dropped into last after their 2-0 loss to Necaxa.

Veracruz remains the only winless team in the Clausura 2019, and they remained in last place in the Tabla de Cociente as well, although relegation rival Lobos also lost.
