The Disciplinary Committee suspended eight players and one coach in the aftermath of this weekend’s Jornada 13 games.
The standout suspension goes to América coach Miguel Herrera, who is banned for the next three games. He was given a one-game suspension for a lack of respect towards the match officials and an additional two games for profanely insulting the officials.
América will be without a player as well, as Roger Martínez was given a one-game suspension for violent conduct.
Puebla took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Toluca scored late to earn a 1-1 draw. The result keeps the Diablos Rojos winless in two but unbeaten in three, while La Franja saw a two-game winning streak halted but also remain unbeaten in three.
The visitors looked the more dangerous side from the beginning, and in the 9th minute they came within inches of taking the lead when Alan Acosta hit the crossbar. Toluca had one notable chance through Felipe Pardo, which was saved well by Nikolás Vikonis, but the majority of play went Puebla’s way in the first half.
Both teams had the lead at one time or another, but in the end – after Tijuana picked up three red cards to finish the game with just 8 players – Atlas scored a stoppage-time equalizer to tie the game 2-2. The result keeps the Xolos and the Rojinegros both unbeaten in three.
Tijuana had looked the better team to start the game, but it was Atlas who took the lead towards the end of the first half. Gibrán Lajud came off his line but didn’t get to a cross, allowing Facundo Barceló to head it into the empty net. 0-1.
Chivas de Guadalajara took the lead but couldn’t hold it, as they went down to 9 players and Pumas UNAM came back for a 1-1 draw. The result extends El Rebaño’s winless streak to four games, but does at least bring their three-game losing streak to a halt, while the universitarios remain unbeaten in five.
Chivas was looking to recover after a painful loss in last weekend’s SuperClásico, while Pumas was looking for points to solidify their spot in the top eight. The game started off slowly, though, with few chances at either end as the two teams took each other’s measure.
Tigres UANL made short work of Santos Laguna with an impressive 4-0 victory. The result is a second straight win for the universitarios, while the Laguneros have now lost two in a row.
Tigres were looking to build on last weekend’s rivalry win and get back to winning ways at home, while Santos wanted to reclaim first place in the table after Necaxa’s victory last night. It was the hosts who started off stronger, and it didn’t take long for Tigres to take the lead.
In the Apertura 2019 edition of the Clásico Joven, Cruz Azul earned a historic 5-2 victory against América. The result snaps a seven-game winless streak for La Máquina, while the Águilas saw their four-game unbeaten streak halted.
Cruz Azul started the game off well with a goal in the 15th minute. Julio César Domínguez headed home a corner kick to make it 1-0 for La Máquina – suffering a painful clash of heads with defender Bruno Valdez in the process.
For the second week in a row, Veracruz took a late lead but couldn’t hold it. Their 1-1 draw with León extends the Tiburones Rojos’ record-setting winless streak to 39 games, while La Fiera is now winless in three.
León came out attacking and they had a good chance early on through José Juan Macías, but his diagonal shot went just wide of the post. Veracruz had a good chance of their own moments later, with Lampros Kontogiannis missing just high in the 4th minute.
Monarcas Morelia took a two-goal lead but failed to hold it as Necaxa stormed back for a 2-3 away win. The result keeps the Rayos unbeaten in three and extends their road winning streak to four games, while the michoacanos have now lost two in a row.
The night started off well for the hosts, who came out attacking and took the lead in the 23rd minute. Eduardo del Ángel headed home a cross from the left to put Morelia ahead 1-0.
