León vs América – Jornada 2 Recap and Highlights

Neither team could find the breakthrough in this one as León and América played out a 0-0 draw. The result keeps both teams unbeaten in the Apertura 2019.

The hosts started the game off well and came close to opening the scoring in the 5th minute. Agustín Marchesín came off his line to cut out a long ball into the box, but failed to deal with it; Luis Montes got to the ball but couldn’t put it on frame.

Veracruz vs Pachuca – Jornada 2 Recap and Highlights

Both teams had the lead at one time or another in this back-and-forth game, but in the end Veracruz and Pachuca had to settle for a 3-3 draw. The Tiburones Rojos will be heartened by the good play they showed in their Apertura debut (after having had a bye week in Jornada 1), while the Tuzos remain winless this season.

Pachuca was looking to avoid a second straight defeat, and they started this one off well. Franco Jara gave them the lead in the 8th minute as he drove into the area, cut around his defender, and sent his shot past the sprawling Sebastián Jurado to make it 0-1. That goal also tied Jara with Gabriel Caballero as Pachuca’s all-time leading goalscorer with 69.

Monarcas Morelia vs Atlas – Jornada 2 Recap and Highlights

Atlas remained perfect in the Apertura 2019 with a 0-1 away win against Monarcas Morelia. The result gives the michoacanos back-to-back losses to start the season.

Morelia came out attacking as they looked to put last week’s loss behind them and they created a number of chances throughout the first half. One of their best chances came in the 26th minute through Fernando Aristeguieta, but his shot from outside the box went inches wide.

Disciplinary Report: Clausura 2019 Week 2

The Disciplinary Committee has suspended two players in the aftermath of this weekend’s Jornada 2 games.

Daniel Villalva of Querétaro and Christian Tabó of Puebla were both given one-game suspensions for serious foul play.

Clausura 2019 Week 2 Standings & Statistics

Toluca moved into first place with their 2-0 win against Puebla, while Tijuana dropped into last with their 0-3 loss to Tigres UANL.

Toluca, Lobos BUAP, Chivas de Guadalajara, América, and Necaxa are all perfect to date, while Monarcas Morelia, Querétaro, and Tijuana have yet to record their first point.

In the relegation standings, Veracruz remained in last place with their 0-1 loss to relegation rival Lobos.

Santos Laguna vs Monarcas Morelia – Jornada 2 Recap and Highlights

Santos Laguna wrapped up the second week of the Clausura 2019 season with a 1-0 victory against Monarcas Morelia. The result gives the Laguneros their first win, while the michoacanos have now lost two in a row. 

The hosts started the game off with more possession, but Morelia was well-organized defensively and Santos couldn’t break them down, despite some early opportunities from Eduar Preciado and Emanuel Loeschbor.

Toluca vs Puebla – Jornada 2 Recap and Highlights

Toluca moved into first place in the table with a 2-0 win against 10-man Puebla. The result is a second straight win for the Diablos Rojos, while the Poblanos remain winless in the young Clausura 2019 season.

The hosts started the game off stronger and kept the ball in Puebla’s defensive third, but they were unable to open the scoring. Puebla slowly grew into the game and leveled it out, although they also struggled to find that final incisive play.

Tijuana vs Tigres UANL – Jornada 2 Recap and Highlights

In a game interrupted by a power outage and then marred by some alarming scenes as a fan fell from the stands and was rushed away in an ambulance, Tigres UANL earned a 3-0 away win against Tijuana. The result keeps the universitarios unbeaten this season while the Xolos remain winless.

The first half started at a good pace and both teams had opportunities in the opening 20 minutes; then the lights went out, resulting in a 16-minute delay before power was restored and the game could resume.
