Mexico Announces Roster for May/June Matches

The Mexican national team is about to enter a very busy stretch, beginning with two friendlies, then two World Cup qualifiers, and then the 2017 Confederations Cup – followed, later this summer, by the Gold Cup.

Juan Carlos Osorio has released a list of 32 players who will take part in Mexico’s upcoming matches, although not all 32 will join the camp – set to begin May 21st – at the same time, with club commitments delaying the arrival of several.

Mexico Again Fined for Homophobic Chants

FIFA has released the latest list of sanctions for “incidents  involving, among others, unsporting and discriminatory conduct by fans during recent 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches” and Mexico is, once again, present due to homophobic chanting.

In this latest round of sanctions, the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) has been fined 10,000 Swiss Francs for discriminatory and unsporting conduct by fans, including homophobic chants, in their March 24th game against Costa Rica.

This is the 8th time that Mexico has been fined and/or warned for homophobic chanting in 2018 World Cup qualifiers:

World Cup Qualifying: Trinidad and Tobago vs Mexico – Recap and Highlights

In a closer game than they were perhaps expecting, Mexico earned a victory by the minimum difference against Trinidad and Tobago to remain unbeaten in World Cup qualifying. The result keeps Mexico at the top of the table while dropping T&T into last.

The hosts had the better of play in the first half, and in the 32nd minute, T&T thought they had taken the lead. However, Joevin Jones’s would-be goal from a fast break was controversially disallowed after a dubious offside call and the game remained 0-0.

Márquez and Damm Ruled Out Against Trinidad and Tobago

The Mexican national team has arrived in Trinidad and Tobago for their World Cup qualifying game, but neither Rafael Márquez nor Jürgen Damm made the trip.

Damm suffered an injury late in Friday’s game against Costa Rica, and after evaluation it was determined that the muscle strain would keep him out of Tuesday’s qualifier. Damm has returned to Monterrey to start treatment with his club.

World Cup Qualifying: Trinidad and Tobago vs Mexico – Where to Watch

Mexico returns to the road as CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying continues this Tuesday. El Tri is coming off a 2-0 home win against Costa Rica that lifted them into first place in the Hex.

They will now travel to Port of Spain to face Trinidad and Tobago; T&T is coming off a win as well, as they beat Panama 1-0 on Friday, and they will look to make it two home wins in a row here.

World Cup Qualifying: Mexico vs Costa Rica – Recap and Highlights

In their first home game of the Hex, Mexico beat Costa Rica 2-0 to move into first place in the standings. The result keeps El Tri unbeaten in this round of qualifying, while the Ticos suffered their first loss.

The game started perfectly for Mexico, with Javier Hernández giving the hosts the lead in just the 7th minute. Chicharito chipped Keylor Navas after receiving a through ball from Carlos Vela to make it 1-0; the goal, his 46th for the national team, ties him with Jared Borgetti as Mexico’s all-time leading goalscorer.

Guardado Out of March Qualifiers, Moreno in Doubt

Andrés Guardado has been ruled out of Mexico’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Costa Rica and Trinidad and Tobago.

The PSV Eindhoven midfielder has a right leg complaint that will keep him off the field; however, he will remain with El Tri to begin treatment and rehab for the injury.

In addition, Guardado’s club teammate Héctor Moreno is a doubt with a muscular complaint.

Mexico Releases Roster for March World Cup Qualifiers

CONCACAF World Cup qualifying resumes next week, and Mexico will be facing Costa Rica and Trinidad and Tobago in the upcoming round of Hex games.

Mexico has announced their 25-man roster for the upcoming qualifiers, and there are some notable absences as Giovani dos Santos and Hirving Lozano miss out due to injury.
