Zacatepec 3-1 Murciélagos (Group 6)
Murciélagos took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Zacatepec came back for a 3-1 win in the opening match of the Clausura 2018 Copa MX. The visitors surprised Zacatepec by taking the lead in just the 8th minute when Rodolfo Galindo assisted Julián Cardozo to make it 0-1. Murciélagos had a golden opportunity to make it 0-2 just minutes later when they received a penalty after Francis Afriyie was fouled in the box. However, Luis Cárdenas saved the spot kick.
The PK save was a turning point as Zacatepec then gained the momentum. In the 15th minute, they tied it up through Juan Neira’s diving header. Despite having the majority of possession after that, it wasn’t until the second half that they took the lead. In the 66th minute, Armando González made it 2-1 for the hosts; then, in the 76th, Sefano Rodríguez added an insurance goal with his shot from distance to make it 3-1.
With the 3-1 win, Zacatepec reaches three points while Murciélagos still have zero.
Atlante 2-2 Celaya – Group 1
Atlante came from behind to draw Celaya 2-2 on Tuesday, which was enough to earn the Potros a spot in the knockout rounds. Celaya, despite going unbeaten through the group stage, was eliminated.
Celaya opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 11th minute through Ángel Reyna after Jimmy Bermúdez was sanctioned for a foul on Rafael Murguía. Celaya then made it 2-0 in the 37th minute with another PK, also for a foul committed by Bermúdez, also converted by Reyna.
Querétaro 2-0 Dorados de Sinaloa – Group 8
Querétaro defeated Dorades de Sinaloa 2-0 on Tuesday night to move into first place in Group 8. The hosts took the lead in the 22nd minute. Édgar Benítez got free on the left, drove into the box, and shot past the onrushing keeper only for the ball to be cleared off the line by the defense. However, the rebound fell back to “Pájaro”, who sent the ball to Patricio Rubio for the finish.
Celaya vs Atlante – Group 1
Celaya and Atlante are both still looking for their first win in this competition after playing out a 1-1 draw in a game that finished 10 vs 10. Celaya started the game off better and they took the lead in just the sixth minute, when Ángel Reyna sent in a cross for Hugo López, who made no mistake with his finish. The hosts had a few chances to add to their lead but they were unable to capitalize on them.
Alebrijes de Oaxaca 0-0 Murciélagos – Group 4
Neither Alebrijes de Oaxaca nor Murciélagos could find the breakthrough in this all-Ascenso MX match to start their Copa MX campaigns. The home team had the better of play in the first half, but the final touch left something to be desired as all their attempts went either well wide or directly to the goalkeeper. As for Murciélagos, their chances were largely limited to set pieces.
Coras Tepic 3-2 Murciélagos
Coras Tepic scored a stoppage-time goal to defeat Murciélagos 3-2, which also gave them the bonus Llave point for their 5-2 aggregate victory. With the win and the bonus point, Coras reach 16 points and the quarterfinals, while Murciélagos remain on three and are eliminated. It was the visitors who took the lead in this one, with debutant Michel López making it 0-1 in the 23rd minute. Murciélagos 0-2 Coras Tepic
A pair of headers gave Coras Tepic the 0-2 away win against Murciélagos, keeping them in the hunt for a quarterfinal spot. Coras took the initiative from the opening whistle, while Murciélagos sat back to absorb the pressure and tried to play on the counterattack. The Disciplinary Committee has suspended five players and two coaches in the aftermath of the fourth round of games in the Clausura 2016 Copa MX.
Leones Negros is by far the most affected by the suspensions; coach Daniel Guzmán was given a one-game suspension for constantly protesting the referee crew’s decisions, while Daniel Guzmán Jr. was suspended for two games for insulting the match officials.
