October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and Liga MX has been supporting the “Mes Rosa” awareness campaign for the past eight years.
This year, the league is also supporting prostate cancer awareness, but although the league is trying to work blue into the color scheme, with a blue-and-pink Voit Aspid ball and the team captains wearing blue and pink armbands, the main color of the month is still pink, and three teams will be debuting pink jerseys in support of breast cancer awareness.
Nike will be outfitting Atlas, Santos Laguna, and Monterrey in pink jerseys specifically designed for this month, while León, who has had a pink secondary jersey for a few seasons, will wear it both home and away in October.
In a campaign to show support for the Mexican national team, América, Atlas, Pachuca, and Tijuana will all be wearing green in their Jornada 14 games. Nike is launching several World Cup commercials and campaigns worldwide, and the green jerseys are being advertised under the slogan #ArriesgaTodo – Risk Everything.
The green jerseys allow Nike, which is not an official partner of the Mexican national team – El Tri is outfitted by adidas – to generate publicity around the national team by using the club teams it sponsors and outfits. Monterrey was also invited to participate, but declined.
The jerseys the four Liga MX will be wearing this weekend feature the same style and designs as their regular shirts – the only difference is the color scheme.
