Both teams had the lead at one time or another, but in the end Toluca and Mineros de Zacatecas had to settle for a 2-2 draw in this Group 4 game. The visitors surprised Toluca by taking the lead in just the 6th minute, when Guillermo Martínez received the ball at the top of the box, cut inside, and made it 0-1 for Mineros. But the Diablos Rojos tied it up before halftime, with Ángel Reyna playing a free kick to Alexis Canelo, whose low shot went through the wall to make it 1-1 in the 31st minute.
Then, in the second half, Toluca took the lead through Luis Quiñones, who found the left-hand corner in the 59th minute. Alebrijes de Oaxaca earned their first victory of the Copa MX with a 1-0 win against Veracruz. The Tiburones Rojos had the first chance of the game, with a dangerous cross into the box that David Álvarez very nearly deflected into his own net. After that, though, the hosts took control and Rodrigo Noya opened the scoring for Oaxaca in the 33rd minute.
In the second half, Alebrijes sat back to defend their lead, ceding more of the ball to the visitors. Veracruz was unable to do much with their possession, however, while Oaxaca looked dangerous on the counter. In the end, the lone goal was enough for the hosts.
With the 1-0 win, Alebrijes reach three points while Veracruz still has zero.
Puebla 1-0 Atlante (Group 4)
Puebla beat Atlante 1-0 in the opening game of Group 4 thanks to a penalty kick late in the first half. Then, in the 41st minute, Gabriel España was called for a handball in the box. Carlos Salom stepped up to take the penalty kick and he converted it to give Puebla the 1-0 lead. The Poblanos had chances to add to their lead in the second half, but the final touch was lacking. Atlante did little to threaten a tying goal and in the end the PK was enough for Puebla.
With the 1-0 win, Puebla reaches three points while Atlante still has zero.
Venados 1-1 Atlante (Group 6)
Venados earned their first point of the Copa MX in their final game of the tournament with a 1-1 draw with Atlante. The visitors looked the better side for long stretches of the game, but Venados defended valiantly and prevented the Potros from getting the win they needed.
Then, late in the second half, the hosts took the lead from the penalty spot. Fernando Herrera was called for a foul on Freddy Martín, and Leandro Navarro converted the spot kick to make it 1-0 in the 72nd minute. But Atlante quickly found a response, with Óscar Uscanga tying the game 1-1 in the 76th minute.
With the 1-1 draw, Venados reach one point while Atlante reaches five.
Necaxa 1-2 Jaguares de Chiapas (Group 5)
Necaxa took the lead but couldn’t hold it as they fell 1-2 to Jaguares de Chiapas. The result ends the Rayos’ unbeaten run in the competition, while also giving Jaguares their first victory. Necaxa started the game off well, and they took the lead in just the 8th minute. Fabián Espíndola finished off a loose ball after it rebounded against the woodwork to give the hosts the 1-0 lead.
Jaguares didn’t properly settle into the game until the second half, and even then it took a mistake by Necaxa to allow them to get on the board. Luis Miño recovered the ball at the top of the box and sent it past Yosgart Gutiérrez to make it 1-1 in the 67th minute. With the score level, the intensity of the game ratcheted up as both teams looked for a winner. Just as the game was looking destined to end 1-1, Enrique Esqueda completed the comeback for Jaguares with his 86th minute goal.
With the 1-2 win, Jaguares reach four points while Necaxa still has four.
Atlas 1-1 Mineros de Zacatecas (Group 4)
Atlas is still winless in the Copa MX after tonight’s 1-1 draw with Mineros de Zacatecas in Group 4 play. In the fifth minute, Mauro Laínes saw his shot hit the post, but it then rebounded against defender Cristian Calderón and in, giving Mineros the lead with an own-goal.
Atlas reacted well to that bit of misfortune, and they pressed forward in search of an equalizer. They found it in the 33rd minute, when Christian Tabó finished off a through ball to make it 1-1.
