Despite a late red card, Atlas earned a 3-0 victory against América. The result snaps a three-game winless streak for the Rojinegros, while the Águilas suffered their first loss of the Apertura 2019 season.
In the first half, Atlas controlled the majority of possession, but it was América that had the better chances. Veracruz, under the interim direction of José Luis González after the renunciation of Enrique Meza, came out attacking as they looked to snap their record-setting winless run, but Morelia quickly took control of the ball and the game. They had a number of chances to open the scoring, but it ultimately took quite a while to find the breakthrough.
Necaxa ended Jornada 6 play with a 1-2 away win against Chivas de Guadalajara. The result gives the Rayos back-to-back victories – and their first win on the road – while El Rebaño has now lost two in a row.
The visitors took the lead early on. In the 10th minute, Maximiliano Salas received the ball in the box, muscled past Oswaldo Alanís, and sent his shot into the back of the net to make it 0-1 for Necaxa.
Toluca earned their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory against 10-man Tijuana. The result snaps a three-game losing streak for the Diablos Rojos while the Xolos have now lost two of their last three.
Toluca came out attacking as they looked to get their season on track, and they were rewarded early. In the 7th minute, the unfortunate Diego Braghieri sent the ball into his own net while trying to cut out a cross from Édgar Pardo to give Toluca the 1-0 lead.
Tigres UANL took the lead but couldn’t hold it as América came back for a 1-1 draw. The result keeps the universitarios unbeaten at home this season and unbeaten in four overall, while the Águilas saw their three-game winning streak halted but remain undefeated in the Apertura.
The hosts came out attacking and dominated play for most of the first half. Their first good chance came in the 8th minute, when Hugo Ayala hit the post, and they kept pressing from there. The breakthrough came in the 26th minute, when Luis Quiñones sent his shot in off the post to make it 1-0 for Tigres.
Cruz Azul took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Puebla came back for a 1-1 draw. The result ends a two-game winning streak for La Máquina, but keeps them unbeaten in three, while the Poblanos are still looking for their first win of the season.
Cruz Azul came out attacking and repeatedly tested Nicolás Vikonis in goal. Guillermo Fernández had a pair of dangerous chances from distance, while Jonathan Rodríguez had a great opportunity following some good team interchange, but Vikonis was able to make the save.
León earned a comprehensive 0-4 away win against a Querétaro side that missed a PK when the game was still goalless. The result gives La Fiera two wins in a row, while the Gallos Blancos saw their unbeaten start to the Apertura brought to a decisive halt.
Querétaro started the game off strongly, with several attacking forays. In the 22nd minute, it looked like their pressure would pay off when Andrés Mosquera brought down Enrique Triverio in the box. The referee pointed to the penalty spot – and also showed Mosquera a red.
Santos Laguna returned to the top of the table, at least temporarily, with their 2-1 win against Monterrey. The result keeps the Laguneros perfect at home this season, while the Rayados saw their three-game winning streak brought to a halt.
The game started off perfectly for Santos, who took the lead moments after kickoff. With just 1:29 on the clock, Julio César Furch pounced on a loose ball in the box and put it away after Monterrey failed to clear a long throw-in. 1-0 for the hosts.
