Ascenso MX Clausura 2016 Semifinals Set

Although the dates and times of the semifinal matches won’t be revealed until Monday afternoon, the participants and pairings are known.

Copa MX Disciplinary Report: C16 Llave 2 Second Legs

disciplinary reportThe Disciplinary Committee has suspended five players and two coaches in the aftermath of the fourth round of games in the Clausura 2016 Copa MX.

Leones Negros is by far the most affected by the suspensions; coach Daniel Guzmán was given a one-game suspension for constantly protesting the referee crew’s decisions, while Daniel Guzmán Jr. was suspended for two games for insulting the match officials. In addition, the Universidad de Guadalajara’s Alberto García was suspended for serious foul play.

Leones Negros came from behind to defeat Dorados de Sinaloa 2-1 on Tuesday night. The victory gave Leones the bonus Llave point for the 4-2 aggregate victory.

Dorados, who have yet to score in league play, took the lead in this one in the second half. Sonny Guadarrama made it 0-1 for the visitors in the 68th minute, but the Universidad de Guadalajara turned the game around with two goals in as many minutes. Continue reading

Dorados de Sinaloa fell 1-2 to Leones Negros on Tuesday night to keep Dorados winless in all competitions in the Clausura 2016. The visiting Universidad de Guadalajara got off to a perfect start when José Lomeli tried his luck from distance, with his long-range shot finding the top corner to make it 0-1 in just the 8th minute. It took Dorados some time to recover from that early blow, with their best chance of the half coming in the 31st minute through Sonny Guadarrama, whose shot was saved by Javier Morán. Apertura 2015 Copa MX Review: Group 6 Game 5

Leones Negros earned their first victory of the competition with a 2-0 win over Murciélagos. The loss complicates Murciélagos’ hopes of reaching the knockout rounds, while restoring a little bit of pride to the already-eliminated Leones.

Jonathan Quintero opened the scoring in the 30th minute after he headed home a cross from Nahosi Lugo. Murciélagos threw everything forward in search of an equalizer, but they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities, with Leones Negros enjoying narrow escapes time and again. In stoppage time, Leones launched a deadly counterattack, with Adrián Villalobos making it 2-0 and putting the game to bed.

With the 2-0 win, Leones reach four points while Murciélagos remain on seven.

Dorados de Sinaloa 1-0 Atlas
Dorados de Sinaloa surprised group-leading Atlas with a 1-0 win. Although the loss wasn’t enough to knock the Rojinegros out of first, Dorados now has the chance to claim first place in the group and with it, a guaranteed spot in the next round.

The lone goal of the game came from a very pretty bit of play in the 69th minute. Roberto Nurse nodded the ball on for Raúl Enríquez, who took it on the volley to give Dorados the lead. That goal would turn into the winner as Atlas was unable to muster a response.

With the 1-0 win, Dorados reach 10 points while Atlas remains on 12.

Apertura 2015 Copa MX Review: Group 6 Game 3

An early goal and a late one gave Dorados de Sinaloa a 1-2 away win against Leones Negros. Both teams went into this game looking for their first win of the competition, and although Leones Negros started off brighter, Dorados would open the scoring from the penalty spot in just the 7th minute. After Edson Santos fouled Marcos Caicedo, Raúl Enríquez converted the spot kick to make it 0-1 for the visitors.

Leones tied it up in the second half with a 65th-minute goal from Christian López, whose scissor kick made it 1-1. However, Dorados would reclaim the lead ten minutes after that when Diego Mejía scored.

With the 1-2 win, Dorados reach three points while Leones Neros remain on one.

Murciélagos 1-2 Atlas
Atlas surprised their hosts with an early goal as they went on to defeat Murciélagos 1-2. Gonzalo Bergessio opened the scoring in just the second minute, giving the Rojinegros a very early lead. However, Murciélagos tightened up defensively after that, weathering the rest of the early storm and then going on to find the equalizer through Nicolás Vignieri in the 21st minute.

In the second half, Murciélagos created a good chance to take the lead through Alejandro Tapia, only for the opportunity to end in a quick counterattack, with Atlas scoring their second of the night – Bergessio again – in the 50th minute. Murciélagos once again pushed forward in search of an equalizer, but it was not to be.

With the 1-2 win, Atlas reaches eight points while Murciélagos remain on seven.
