Disciplinary Report: Apertura 2019 Week 11

The Disciplinary Committee has suspended two players and fined a third in the aftermath of this week’s Jornada 11 games.

Gastón Sauro of Toluca was given a one-game suspension for receiving two yellow cards in the same game, while Fernando Gorriarán of Santos Laguna was suspended one game for violent conduct.

In addition, Edwin Cardona of Pachuca was fined for violating Article 26 of the Regulations for Sanctions, which states “players who celebrate a goal or winning a game with behavior, gestures, or expressions, either towards the opponent or the crowd, that are excessive, inappropriate, obscene, offensive, rude, mocking, or truly unsporting, and that weren’t seen by the referee, will be sanctioned with a fine.”

Santos Laguna remained in first place with their 5-0 victory against Veracruz, a result that kept the Tiburones Rojos rooted to the bottom of the table.

Veracruz remains the only winless team.

Veracruz remained in last place in the Tabla de Cociente as well, while relegation rivals San Luis, Querétaro, and Chivas de Guadalajara also lost, and FC Juárez drew.

FC Juárez vs América – Jornada 11 Recap & Highlights

FC Juárez took the lead but failed to hold it as América came back for a 1-1 draw. The result keeps the Bravos unbeaten in two while the Águilas are unbeaten in three – but also winless in six.

The game started off somewhat tentatively in the opening minutes, but it nevertheless didn’t take the hosts long to take the lead. In the 11th minute, Diego Rolán headed home a cross from the right to put Juárez ahead, 1-0.

Santos Laguna vs Veracruz – Jornada 11 Recap & Highlights

Santos Laguna steamrolled past an increasingly toothless Veracruz to the tune of a 5-0 win. The result keeps the Laguneros unbeaten in five and lifts them back into first place in the table, while the Tiburones Rojos remain rooted to the foot of the table as their record-setting winless streak grew to 37 games.

Santos looked dangerous from the start and they continually knocked on the door before finding the breakthrough in the 18th minute. Eryc Castillo opened the scoring for the hosts after Diego Valdés played him in behind the defense.

León vs Atlas – Jornada 11 Recap & Highlights

Atlas took the lead but couldn’t hold it as León came back for a 1-1 draw. The result keeps La Fiera unbeaten in seven, while the Rojinegros are now winless in three – although they did snap their two-game losing streak.

León started the game off stronger and had several dangerous chances early. In the 5th minute, Camilo Vargas made a good save to send the ball out for a corner, and the keeper followed that up with another stop on the ensuing corner to keep León from taking the lead.

Chivas de Guadalajara vs Pachuca – Jornada 11 Recap & Highlights

In an exciting game where both teams had the lead at one time or another, Pachuca emerged victorious with a 2-4 away win against Chivas de Guadalajara. The result gives the Tuzos back-to-back multi-goal victories and keeps them unbeaten in three, while El Rebaño has now lost two in a row.

Chivas came out pressing while Pachuca sat back, absorbed the pressure, and waited for an opening. It came in the 15th minute when Dieter Villalpando lost the ball and let Franco Jara break away on a counterattack, which ended with Antonio Briseño conceding a penalty with a foul in the box.

Querétaro vs Necaxa – Jornada 11 Recap & Highlights

Necaxa claimed first place in the table – pending the rest of this week’s results – with a 1-2 away win against Querétaro. The result gives the Rayos three wins in their last four as they bounced back from a loss over the weekend, while the Gallos Blancos are now winless in three.

The hosts started the game off well, although they had made several changes to their starting lineup due to the schedule congestion giving them three games in seven days. Those changes didn’t seem to faze them, though, and they had the ball in the back of the net twice – only for both would-be goals to be disallowed.

Tigres UANL vs Puebla – Jornada 11 Recap & Highlights

Puebla scored late to grab a surprising 0-1 away win against Tigres UANL. The result ended the universitarios’ season-long home unbeaten streak and leaves them winless in six overall, while the Poblanos snapped a two-game losing streak with their first road win of the Apertura.

The game started off at a high tempo, with chances coming frequently and at both ends. Jürgen Damm and Alejandro Chumacero were particularly active for their respective teams, but the final touch was lacking and more than one opportunity was stopped by the woodwork.

Clausura 2019 Week 11 Standings & Statistics

León remained in first place with their 2-0 win against Veracruz, while Querétaro remained last after their 4-1 loss to Tigres UANL.

There are no unbeaten teams remaining after Monterrey suffered their first loss of the season, while Veracruz remains the only winless one.

In the relegation standings, Veracruz remained in last place in the Tabla de Cociente with their loss, while relegation rival Lobos drew.
