The Disciplinary Commitee has suspended give players in the aftermath of this weekend’s Jornada 13 games.
Rafael Baca of Cruz Azul was given a one-game suspension for denial of a clear goal-scoring opportunity, while Jesús Angulo of Santos Laguna was suspended for receiving two yellow cards in the same game.
Alexis Pérez of Querétaro, Alexis Vega of Chivas de Guadalajara, and Luis Felipe Gallegos of Necaxa were all given one-game suspensions for serious foul play.
Neither team could find the breakthrough in this one as Santos Laguna and Pachuca played out a 0-0 draw. The result ends a two-game losing streak for the Laguneros but keeps them winless in five, while the Tuzos remain winless on the road this season.
Santos was looking to get back to winning ways under the interim direction of Rubén Duarte, and they started the game off strongly. However, despite a few good chances, they were unable to get past Alfonso Blanco in Pachuca’s goal.
Toluca provided the surprise of the weekend with a 5-1 thumping of Monterrey. The result gives the Diablos Rojos three consecutive home wins while keeping the Rayados winless in four overall.
Toluca controlled the game from the beginning as they looked to remain in the playoff fight. Marcelo Barovero was forced into action repeatedly to keep the Diablos Rojos off the board, and he very nearly got Monterrey to halftime with the game still goalless.
Tijuana got revenge after América knocked them out of the Copa MX in midweek by handing the Águilas a 3-2 defeat in league play. The result extends the Xolos’ home winning streak to five, while América saw their five-game unbeaten streak halted.
The game started off well for the Águilas, who took the lead in the 13th minute. Guido Rodríguez sent a long-range effort unerringly into the back of the net to make it 0-1 for the visitors.
10-man Chivas de Guadalajara was unable to make their home-field advantage count as they fell 0-1 to Lobos BUAP. The result ends a three-game winless streak for the Licántropos, while El Rebaño has now lost three in a row and is winless in six.
Chivas started the game off with some promising chances, such as when Alejandro Mayora sent a dangerous ball across the face of goal, but no one was there to finish it off. Then the hosts were handed an early blow when Jair Periera had to be subbed out injured in the 10th minute.
León tied the league record for consecutive victories with a 2-1 win against Necaxa. The result is a 10th straight win for La Fiera, while the Rayos saw their three-game unbeaten streak brought to a halt.
The visitors were looking to solidify a playoff place, while the hosts were looking to remain top of the table. Necaxa started the game off with more possession, and they had the first chance in the 8th minute through Brian Fernández, although Rodolfo Cota easily made the save.
Tigres UANL bounced back from last weekend’s loss with a 2-0 victory against Pumas UNAM. The result is a fifth straight home win for Tigres, while Pumas have now lost three in a row on the road.
Tigres dominated proceedings from the beginning, although Pumas found a few good chances largely against the run of play. Kevin Escamilla had a long-distance attempt in the 6th minute, while Martín Rodríguez had a golden opportunity go begging in the 20th minute.
In a game that finished 10 vs 10, Cruz Azul picked up a comfortable 3-0 victory against Querétaro. The result keeps La Máquina unbeaten in six – with four wins in that span – while the Gallos Blancos remain winless on the road this season.
The hosts started the game off strongly and they found several early chances. In the 6th minute, Yoshimar Yotún had a good look, but his shot went over the bar; then, in the 13th minute, Orbelín Pineda saw his header hit the crossbar.
Monarcas Morelia took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Puebla came back for a 1-1 draw. The result keeps Puebla unbeaten in three, but ends their two-game winning streak, while the michoacanos remain winless on the road this season and winless in 10 overall.
The visitors nearly caught Puebla out when Carlos Ferreira took an ambitious shot from 35 yards out that beat Nicolás Vikonis, but ultimately hit the crossbar. That opportunity was one of the few of note in a first half that was played largely in midfield, with both teams struggling to make their mark on the game.
