Disciplinary Report: Apertura 2017 Week 15

The Disciplinary Committee has suspended eight players, upheld a red card appeal, and opened an investigation into a coach in the aftermath of this weekend’s Jornada 15 games.

Alexander Mejía of León and Jaine Barreiro of Atlas were given one-game suspensions for denial of a clear goal-scoring opportunity, while Osvaldo González of Toluca and Nicolás Castillo of Pumas UNAM were suspended one game for a lack of respect towards the match officials.

Apertura 2017 Week 15 Statistics

Monterrey remained in first place with their 2-0 win against América, while Pumas UNAM dropped into last after their 3-0 loss to Puebla.

Monterrey and Tigres UANL have locked up their spots in the playoffs, while Veracruz, Querétaro, and Pumas are all mathematically out of contention.

In the relegation fight, Veracruz remained in last place in the Tabla de Cociente with their 6-2 loss to León, while relegation rivals Lobos BUAP also lost, Querétaro and Atlas drew, and Puebla won.

Santos Laguna vs Pachuca – Jornada 15 Recap and Highlights

Pachuca took a 0-2 lead but couldn’t hold it as Santos Laguna fought back for a 2-2 draw. The result keeps the Guerreros unbeaten in three, but ends their two-game winning streak, while the Tuzos are likewise unbeaten in three.

The visitors started the game off strongly and in the 7th minute Franco Jara hit the post as Pachuca came close to opening the scoring. However, it wasn’t until the 31st minute that the Tuzos were able to take the lead.

Toluca vs Monarcas Morelia – Jornada 15 Recap and Highlights

Monarcas Morelia earned an away victory against Toluca by the minimum difference, winning 0-1. The result keeps La Monarquía unbeaten in five – with four wins in that span – while the Diablos Rojos have now lost back-to-back games and are winless in three.

The first half was a largely even affair. Toluca had the first opportunity of the game, but both teams were largely limited to shots from distance that did little to trouble either keeper. When halftime rolled around, the score remained 0-0.

Necaxa vs Lobos BUAP – Jornada 15 Recap and Highlights

Necaxa earned their second consecutive win with a comprehensive 5-0 thrashing of Lobos BUAP. The result keeps the Rayos unbeaten at home in six, while the licántropos have lost four of their last five.

Necaxa took the lead in the 12th minute after Carlos González and Martín Barragán combined, with the Paraguayan finishing off the play to make it 1-0.

Chivas de Guadalajara vs Tijuana – Jornada 15 Recap and Highlights

Tijuana took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Chivas de Guadalajara came back for a 3-1 victory. The result is El Rebaño’s first home win of the season and a second consecutive victory, while the Xolos have now lost two in a row.

The game started off well for the visitors, who took the lead in the 6th minute. Good combination play in the attack ended with Miller Bolaños making it 0-1 for Tijuana.

Monterrey vs América – Jornada 15 Recap and Highlights

Monterrey beat América 2-0 despite finishing the game with 10 men. The result keeps the Rayados perfect at home this season and firmly at the top of the table, while the Águilas have now lost two in a row.

The visitors started the game off well and they had a pair of good chances through Oribe Peralta in the 9th and 11th minutes. However, those opportunities came to naught and Monterrey began to get into the game.

León vs Veracruz – Jornada 15 Recap and Highlights

León demolished Veracruz 6-2 in this game that finished 10 vs 10. The result is a fourth straight home victory for La Fiera, while the Tiburones Rojos have now lost three in a row and are winless in five.

The game started off perfectly for the hosts, who took the lead in just the third minute. Elías Hernández played in Andrés Andrade, who finished off the service to make it 1-0 for León.

Cruz Azul vs Tigres UANL – Jornada 15 Recap and Highlights

Cruz Azul took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Tigres UANL came back for a 1-2 victory. The result is a third consecutive victory for the universitarios, while La Máquina has now lost two in a row.

The game started off perfectly for the hosts, who took the lead in just the fourth minute. Francisco Silva received the ball in midfield and sent his long-distance shot past Nahuel Guzmán to give Cruz Azul the 1-0 lead.

Querétaro vs Atlas – Jornada 15 Recap and Highlights

Both teams had the lead at one point or another, but in the end they had to settle for a share of the spoils as Querétaro and Atlas drew 2-2. The result ends a two-game losing streak for the Gallos Blancos, but keeps them winless in 11, while the Rojinegros are unbeaten in two.

Luis Fernando Tena was on the bench for his first game in charge of Querétaro as he looked to turn the Gallos’ fortunes around, but the game couldn’t have started worse for the hosts. In the second minute of the game, Tiago Volpi tried to play the ball out of the back but sent it directly to Ravel Morrison, who took a few touches and then beat the stranded keeper to make it 0-1 for Atlas.
