Necaxa vs Monarcas Morelia – Jornada 15 Recap and Highlights

Necaxa scored in stoppage time to earn a 2-1 win against Monarcas Morelia. The result is a second consecutive win for the Rayos and a second consecutive loss for the Monaraquía; it also leaves Morelia winless in five and drops them into last place in the relegation standings, pending Veracruz’s result on Sunday.

The visitors had a pair of chances in the opening minutes, but a deflection kept the first one out and the second was off target. Then, in the 10th minute, Necaxa opened the scoring. Edson Puch received the ball outside the box and sent his low shot past the keeper to make it 1-0.

León vs Puebla – Jornada 15 Recap and Highlights

León extended their unbeaten streak to five games with a 1-0 victory over Puebla. The result keeps the Poblanos winless on the road in four and rooted to the bottom of the league table.

Puebla could have mathematically guaranteed their safety in the relegation fight with a win tonight; instead, they will now have to wait and see what happens in Veracruz’s game on Sunday. León, meanwhile, was looking to continue their climb up the table as they make a last push for a playoff spot.

Monterrey vs Tigres UANL – Jornada 15 Recap and Highlights

In the Clausura 2017 edition of the Clásico Regio, Monterrey earned the bragging rights with a 1-0 victory over Tigres UANL. The result keeps the Rayados unbeaten in four and gives them a sixth consecutive home win, while the universitarios saw their three-game unbeaten streak brought to a halt.

The Clásico was hard-fought from the opening whistle, but both teams seemed more concerned with stopping the other than with mounting their own incisive attacks. There was controversy in the 27th minute, when Juninho used his arm to block a cross from José María Basanta, but referee Roberto García Orozco declined to call a penalty.

Atlas vs Pachuca – Jornada 15 Recap and Highlights

Atlas extended their home unbeaten streak to five games with a 1-0 victory against Pachuca. The Tuzos are now winless in six and goalless in the same span, although tonight they had the excuse of resting a number of starters with an eye towards Wednesday’s CONCACAF Champions League final.

The first half was a largely even affair, with both teams looking to strengthen their positioning in the playoff race. The visitors had the first clear chance in the 28th minute, when Hirving Lozano found Erick Aguirre in the box, but Brayan Garnica was there to clear the ball with the goalkeeper beaten.

Querétaro vs Jaguares de Chiapas – Jornada 15 Recap and Highlights

Querétaro twice took the lead and twice failed to hold it as they drew 2-2 with Jaguares de Chiapas. The result leaves Jaguares winless in seven, but they did earn what could prove to be a very valuable point in the relegation fight. As for the Gallos Blancos, they are now winless in five.

The hosts quickly began to find dangerous chances, with Ángel Sepúlveda missing an empty net from close range in the 5th minute after Camilo Sanvezzo set him up. But Querétaro didn’t have to wait much longer to open the scoring, and in the 10 minute Sepúlveda finished off a cross from Jaime Gómez to make it 1-0.

Cruz Azul vs Chivas de Guadalajara – Jornada 15 Recap and Highlights

Cruz Azul remained unbeaten at home in three with a 2-1 victory against 10-man Chivas de Guadalajara. The result leaves El Rebaño winless in three overall and winless in five on the road.

The hosts started the game off well and they had a few chances in the early going. Then, in the 20th minute, Rodolfo Cota was called for a foul in the box on Jorge Benítez, and La Máquina was given the chance to open the scoring from the penalty spot.

Tijuana vs Toluca – Jornada 15 Recap and Highlights

Tijuana moved into first place in the table – pending the rest of this weekend’s games – with a 2-0 victory against Toluca. The result is a third straight win for the Xolos, who are also unbeaten in six, while the Diablos Rojos are now winless in three.

The first half was close-fought and cagey, with neither side able to stamp their authority on the game. The visitors’ most dangerous chance came from a set piece, but Gibrán Lajud was able to make the save at the end of the corner-kick sequence.

Disciplinary Report: Apertura 2016 Week 15

disciplinary reportThe Disciplinary Committee has suspended two players, fined a club, and issued a warning of a stadium ban in the aftermath of this weekend’s Jornada 15 games.

Jesús Paganoni of Veracruz and Óscar Rojas of Toluca were both given a one-game suspension for receiving two yellow cards in the same match.
