Querétaro did their part with a 1-0 victory against Necaxa, and now must wait on other results to see if it will be enough to put them into the playoffs (update: with Pachuca’s draw, Queréaro has qualified for the playoffs). The result keeps the Gallos Blancos unbeaten in three while the Rayos finish the season with an eight-game winless streak – and zero road wins.
The hosts came out attacking and had the better of the run of play, with Marcel Ruiz and Camilo Sanvezzo combining well. Jimmy Gómez was also active in attack for the Gallos, and in the 28th minute he had a good chance but Necaxa’s defense recovered well.
Neither team could end their season on a high note as Puebla and Tijuana closed out their participation in the Apertura 2018 with a 0-0 draw. The result keeps the Poblanos winless in three, while the Xolos finish winless in six, but at least ended a four-game losing streak.
Puebla started the game off more aggressively as they looked for a final victory in front of their home fans, but they couldn’t create any truly dangerous opportunities. As the game wore on, the pace slowed down, and neither goalkeeper had much to do in the first half.
Cruz Azul locked up the superlíder position and first seed for the playoffs with a 0-2 away win against Monarcas Morelia. The result is a third straight victory for La Máquina, while the michoacanos have lost two of their last three and must now wait on other results to see if they’ll qualify for the Liguilla.
Jesús Corona didn’t travel to Morelia, with coach Pedro Caixinha choosing to rest him after his trip to Argentina with the national team, but backup keeper Guillermo Allison proved up to the task as he repeatedly denied Monarcas to preserve the shut out.
With their spot in the playoffs already assured, Toluca earned a 3-1 win against Tijuana as they looked to improve their seeding. The Xolos were already out of playoff contention and ended their season on a sour note with the loss.
Toluca nearly opened the scoring in the 20th minute, when Carlos Esquivel ran on to a through ball, got to the end-line, and cut the ball back for Rubens Sambueza, whose shot went just inches wide of the near post.
In the Apertura 2017 edition of the Clásico Regio, Monterrey earned the bragging rights with a 2-0 victory against Tigres UANL. The result sees the Rayados finish the season as superlíder, with Tigres behind them in second. Both teams were already qualified for the playoffs.
The game started on a sour note for the visitors, with Israel Jiménez suffering an early injury that saw him replaced by Lucas Zelarayán in just the 6th minute. Then, in the 13th minute, it appeared that Monterrey had taken the lead, but the would-be goal was disallowed for offside.
Chivas de Guadalajara closed out their season with a 0-2 away win against León. El Rebaño were already out of playoff contention before kickoff, while León, already qualified, was looking to improve their seeding.
The hosts had chances from the opening whistle, with Mauro Boselli, Andrés Andrade, and Elías Hernández all causing problems for Guadalajara’s defense. However, La Fiera couldn’t find the breakthrough and Chivas grew into the game.
Querétaro took the lead but couldn’t hold it, with Pumas UNAM tying the game at 1-1. However, the draw is a good result for the Gallos Blancos considering that they finished the game with just nine men. The result also prevents Pumas from moving out of last place in the table, where they will end the season.
The game started off well for the hosts, who took the lead in the 8th minute. Camilo Sanvezzo sent a free kick into the box and Everaldo Stum sent it past Alfredo Saldívar to make it 1-0 for Querétaro.
