Apertura 2017 Week 17 Statistics

Monterrey finished the season in first place after their 2-0 win against Tigres UANL, while Pumas UNAM finished in last place despite their 1-1 draw with Querétaro.

Monterrey, Tigres, América, Monarcas Morelia, Toluca, Cruz Azul, León, and Atlas qualified for the playoffs and will compete for the Apertura 2017 title.

In the relegation fight, Veracruz ended the season in last in the Tabla de Cociente with their 1-0 loss to Cruz Azul, while relegation rivals Lobos BUAP won, Atlas and Querétaro drew, and Puebla lost.

Toluca vs Tijuana – Jornada 17 Recap and Highlights

With their spot in the playoffs already assured, Toluca earned a 3-1 win against Tijuana as they looked to improve their seeding. The Xolos were already out of playoff contention and ended their season on a sour note with the loss.

Toluca nearly opened the scoring in the 20th minute, when Carlos Esquivel ran on to a through ball, got to the end-line, and cut the ball back for Rubens Sambueza, whose shot went just inches wide of the near post.

Necaxa vs Monarcas Morelia – Jornada 17 Recap and Highlights

Monarcas Morelia earned a 1-2 away win against Necaxa to keep the Rayos out of the playoffs. Morelia was already qualified for the Liguilla and was looking to improve their seeding with a win.

Although Necaxa’s need for points was greater, it was Morelia who came out attacking. Raúl Ruidíaz had the first good chance but Marcelo Barovero was able to make a stunning save to deny him.

Monterrey vs Tigres UANL – Jornada 17 Recap and Highlights

In the Apertura 2017 edition of the Clásico Regio, Monterrey earned the bragging rights with a 2-0 victory against Tigres UANL. The result sees the Rayados finish the season as superlíder, with Tigres behind them in second. Both teams were already qualified for the playoffs.

The game started on a sour note for the visitors, with Israel Jiménez suffering an early injury that saw him replaced by Lucas Zelarayán in just the 6th minute. Then, in the 13th minute, it appeared that Monterrey had taken the lead, but the would-be goal was disallowed for offside.

León vs Chivas de Guadalajara – Jornada 17 Recap and Highlights

Chivas de Guadalajara closed out their season with a 0-2 away win against León. El Rebaño were already out of playoff contention before kickoff, while León, already qualified, was looking to improve their seeding.

The hosts had chances from the opening whistle, with Mauro Boselli, Andrés Andrade, and Elías Hernández all causing problems for Guadalajara’s defense. However, La Fiera couldn’t find the breakthrough and Chivas grew into the game.

Querétaro vs Pumas UNAM – Jornada 17 Recap and Highlights

Querétaro took the lead but couldn’t hold it, with Pumas UNAM tying the game at 1-1. However, the draw is a good result for the Gallos Blancos considering that they finished the game with just nine men. The result also prevents Pumas from moving out of last place in the table, where they will end the season.

The game started off well for the hosts, who took the lead in the 8th minute. Camilo Sanvezzo sent a free kick into the box and Everaldo Stum sent it past Alfredo Saldívar to make it 1-0 for Querétaro.

Cruz Azul vs Veracruz – Jornada 17 Recap and Highlights

Despite missing a penalty kick, Cruz Azul beat nine-man Veracruz 1-0 to put La Máquina back into the playoffs for the first time in three years.

In front of a vociferous crowd in the Estadio Azul, La Máquina came out attacking as they looked for that elusive Liguilla berth. Jesús Méndez and Ángel Mena combined well as Cruz Azul looked to take an early lead. But despite controlling possession, the final touch was lacking for the hosts.

Atlas vs Pachuca – Jornada 17 Recap and Highlights

Atlas took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Pachuca scored a last-minute goal to tie the game 1-1. The draw leaves the Rojinegros waiting on other results to see if they will qualify for the playoffs; Pachuca was out of playoff contention before tonight’s game.

Atlas came out attacking, knowing that a win would put them into the Liguilla. Óscar Pérez was kept busy from the opening whistle as he looked to keep the hosts off the board.

Puebla vs Lobos BUAP – Jornada 17 Recap and Highlights

Lobos BUAP overcame 10-man Puebla by the minimum difference as they earned a 0-1 away win in this regional rivalry. This was the conclusion of the Apertura 2017 season for both teams, who were out of playoff contention before tonight’s kickoff.

Both teams came out attacking as they looked to not only gain regional bragging rights but also improve their position in the relegation standings. Puebla had started the game off well, but before long it leveled out as the teams looked evenly matched.
