Disciplinary Report: Apertura 2019 Week 18

Tijuana will be missing two players for their final regular season game, as Jordan Silva was given a one-game suspension for denial of a clear goal-scoring opportunity, and Miler Bolaños was suspended for yellow-card accumulation after receiving his fifth caution of the season.

Walter Gael Sandoval of Chivas de Guadalajara and Franco Jara of Pachuca were suspended one game for receiving two yellow cards in the same match

Finally, Gustavo Alejandro Leombruno, Puebla’s physical trainer, was given a one-game suspension for entering the field of play to confront the referee crew.

Apertura 2019 Week 18 Standings & Statistics

Santos Laguna remained in first place – and guaranteed they’ll finish the season there – with their 3-1 win against Cruz Azul, while Veracruz remained in last with their 0-5 loss to América.

Necaxa, América, León, Tigres UANL, and Querétaro joined Santos Laguna on the list of teams qualified for the playoffs, while Monarcas Morelia, Monterrey, Tijuana, Pumas UNAM, Pachuca, and Chivas de Guadalajara are all in the running for the final two Liguilla spots.

In the relegation fight, Veracruz remained in last place in the Tabla de Cociente with their loss, while relegation rivals San Luis and Querétaro also lost, FC Juárez drew, and Chivas de Guadalajara won.

Tigres UANL vs Pachuca – Jornada 18 Recap & Highlights

Despite numerous chances at both ends, neither Tigres UANL nor Pachuca could find the breakthrough as this one finished 0-0. The result puts Pachuca’s playoff hopes in jeopardy, while Tigres were already assured a spot in the upcoming Liguilla.

The goalkeepers were the stars of the game, with both Nahuel Guzmán and Rodrigo Rey making impressive stops to preserve their respective clean sheets. Tigres had the majority of possession in the first half, but Pachuca – who needed the win more urgently – kept the pressure on and had a chance or two on the break.

Tijuana vs Monterrey – Jornada 18 Recap & Highlights

Monterrey beat 10-man Tijuana 0-4 away to keep their playoff hopes alive while complicating Tijuana’s. The result keeps the Rayados unbeaten in four while the Xolos have now lost two in a row.

The game changed in the 21st minute, when, after VAR review, Jordan Silva was red-carded for a foul on Rogelio Funes Mori in the box. Not only were Tijuana down to 10, but they were facing a penalty kick. Nicolas Sánchez put away the spot kick to make it 0-1 for Monterrey.

Veracruz vs América – Jornada 18 Recap & Highlights

América locked up their spot in the playoffs in their final regular season game – they have a bye next week – with a 0-5 thumping of Veracruz. The result gives the Águilas three wins in their last four, while the Tiburones Rojos are winless in two.

The visitors were the better team from the beginning and it didn’t take long for their dominance to pay off. The usually assured Sebastián Jurado gifted them the opening goal in the 18th minute, when he came out to punch away a corner and missed the contact; the ball fell to Bruno Valdez, who put it away to make it 0-1.

Monarcas Morelia vs Puebla – Jornada 18 Recap & Highlights

Monarcas Morelia took a huge step toward clinching a playoff berth with a 3-2 victory against Puebla. The result keeps the Monarquía unbeaten in five, while the Poblanos are now winless in six.

The game started off perfectly for the hosts, who took the lead immediately following kickoff. Just 29 seconds into the game, Miguel Ángel Sansores finished off a low cross at the top of the six-yard box to make it 1-0 for Morelia with the fifth-fastest goal in league history.
