Disciplinary Report: Apertura 2019 Week 3

The Disciplinary Committee has suspended 5 players in the aftermath of this weekend’s Jornada 3 games – although one of those suspensions has been appealed.

Cruz Azul’s Jonathan Rodríguez, Querétaro’s George Corral, and Puebla’s Lucas Cavallini were all given one-game suspensions for serious foul play.

Puebla filed a petition of non-conformity regarding Cavallini’s red card, which the Disciplinary Committee overturned. However, Puebla appealed the Committee’s decision and the Appeals Commission is now meeting to make a determination.

FC Juárez earned their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory against Toluca. The result snapped a two-game losing streak for the Bravos, while the Diablos Rojos remain winless in the Apertura 2019.

Juárez was playing their first home game and was looking to get on track in front of their fans, and they controlled play from the beginning against a disjointed Toluca side. Pumas UNAM vs Tigres UANL – Jornada 3 Recap & Highlights

Tigres UANL scored a last-minute – and historic – goal to give them a 0-1 away win against Pumas UNAM. The result ends UNAM’s perfect start to the season while UANL bounced back from last weekend’s loss.

The hosts started the game off stronger, but the final touch was lacking. Pumas generated quite a few off-target shots, and the ones that did go on frame were easily handled by Nahuel Guzmán.

The night started off well for the visitors, who moved the ball well, got consistently into the attack, and opened the scoring in the 17th minute. From a corner kick, the ball was nodded on to the far post, where Ismael Sosa stooped to head the ball home and give León the 0-1 lead.

América vs Tijuana – Jornada 3 Recap & Highlights

América earned a 3-1 victory against Tijuana in their first game after the departure of Agustín Marchesín, but it wasn’t all good news for the Águilas: Nicolás Castillo suffered a fractured fibula late in the first half.

The visitors had a dangerous chance early on, with Ariel Nahuelpán’s shot from outside the box forcing a save out of Óscar Jiménez, and then Washington Camacho sending the rebound barely wide in the 3rd minute.

Pachuca vs Monarcas Morelia – Jornada 3 Recap and Highlights

Rubens Sambueza made his debut with Pachuca but couldn’t help the Tuzos get on track as they fell 1-2 to Monarcas Morelia. The result gives the michoacanos their first victory of the season while the Tuzos remain winless.

Pachuca came out attacking as they looked to get their season on track in front of their home fans, and Franco Jara had an early opportunity to put them ahead – and become the Tuzos’ all-time leading goal-scorer – but it came to naught.

Moments later, Romo came within inches of scoring a second direct from a free kick, only to be denied by the woodwork.

Atlas vs Santos Laguna – Jornada 3 Recap & Highlights

Santos Laguna made it three wins out of three as they picked up a 1-2 away victory against Atlas. The result ends the Rojinegros’ own perfect start to the season, and ends their perfect defensive run as well.

Atlas set up in an attacking formation as they looked to keep their winning streak alive at home, but Santos adapted well to it and began to pressure the hosts high up the field. Atlas had a throw deep in their defensive end, and Santos picked it off, with Brian Lozano stealing the ball off Diego Barbosa and making it 0-1 in the 16th minute.
