The Disciplinary Committee has suspended three players and a coach in the aftermath of this weekend’s Jornada 8 games.
Rodrigo Godínez of Lobos BUAP and Kristian Álvarez of Veracruz were both given one-game suspensions for serious foul play while Néstor Araujo of Santos Laguna was suspended one game for violent conduct.
Neither team could find the breakthrough in this one as Santos Laguna and Toluca played out a 0-0 draw. The result keeps the Laguneros winless at home this season but unbeaten in three overall while the Diablos Rojos remain winless on the road but unbeaten in two overall.
The hosts had the better of the run of play, but both teams were lacking precision in the final third. The best chance of the half for Santos came in the 26th minute with a dangerous shot from Gael Sandoval, but it was off target.
Pumas UNAM suffered their fourth consecutive defeat as they fell 0-2 to Tijuana. The result is a fourth straight win for the Xolos, who are unbeaten in five.
The game started off quite balanced, with most of the play concentrated in midfield. The first notable chance for the hosts came in the 16th minute from a set piece. Nicolás Castillo beat his marker and got on the end of a corner kick, but he couldn’t put it on frame.
América got back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory against Veracruz. The Tiburones Rojos finished the game with 10 men as they suffered their third road loss of the season.
The game started off perfectly for the Águilas, who took the lead in just the 5th minute. Oribe Peralta played in Silvio Romero, who got around his defenders and scored with a shot to the near post. 1-0.
Chivas de Guadalajara earned their first win of the Apertura 2017 with a 1-3 away victory against Pachuca. The result is a second straight loss for the Tuzos.
Chivas came out attacking from the opening whistle and Rodolfo Pizarro sent a shot just wide early on. Pachuca had early chances of their own, with Erick Gutiérrez’s header forcing a good save out of Rodolfo Cota.
Monterrey missed a penalty but still did enough to earn their sixth win of the season as they beat Necaxa 1-0. The result keeps the Rayados unbeaten this season and perfect at home, while the Rayos saw their three-game unbeaten streak halted.
Necaxa started the game off strongly, and the visitors came close to opening the scoring in the 4th minute when Carlos González saw his shot from distance crash against the crossbar. The Rayos had several more good chances but they were unable to find the breakthrough.
León extended their road winning streak to three games with a 1-2 victory against Querétaro. The result leaves the Gallos Blancos winless in four and adds to their home woes; Querétaro has just one win from their four home games to date.
León has played better on the road than at home this season, and that continued tonight. The visitors took the lead in the 17th minute when Elías Hernández beat Tiago Volpi with a powerful shot.
Lobos BUAP saw their winless streak stretch to five games as they fell 1-3 to Monarcas Morelia. The licántropos slipped to the foot of the relegation standings with the loss while the michoacanos have now won three in a row.
The field was in poor condition with puddles and divots, and it was that state that allowed Morelia to open the scoring in the 13th minute. Francisco Rodríguez’s attempted clearance deflected off Raúl Ruidíaz; José Francisco Canales couldn’t corral the ball on the sloppy ground and Ruidíaz pounced to send the ball into the empty net. 0-1.
