Disciplinary Report: Apertura 2018 Week 8

The Disciplinary Committee has suspended two players, two coaches, and an assistant coach in the aftermath of this weekend’s Jornada 8 games.

The longest suspensions go to Diego Alonso, coach of Monterrey, and Hernán Cristante, coach of Toluca, who will both miss two games for insulting the match officials.

Apertura 2018 Week 8 Standings & Statistics

Cruz Azul remained in first place with their 4-1 win against Veracruz, while Atlas remained in last with their 3-1 loss to Tigres UANL.

Cruz Azul remains the only unbeaten team left, while Atlas remains the only winless one.

In the relegation standings, Lobos BUAP remained last with their 0-2 loss to América, while relegation rivals Veracruz also lost and Querétaro and Puebla won.

Lobos BUAP vs América – Jornada 8 Recap and Highlights

América earned a 0-2 away win against Lobos BUAP in the final game of Jornada 8. The result is a fourth straight loss for the Licántropos, who are winless in six, while the Águilas snapped a three-game winless streak and are now unbeaten in two.

Lobos were looking to get back on track on home ground, but it was América who had the first good chance of the game with an early corner kick. Guido Rodríguez connected with the set piece, but Jordan Sierra made the defensive play to preserve the draw in the 3rd minute.

Toluca vs Santos Laguna – Jornada 8 Recap and Highlights

Santos Laguna took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Toluca came back for a 2-1 win. The result ends a two-game losing streak for the Diablos Rojos, while the Laguneros are now winless in three.

The game started off perfectly for the visitors, who took the lead in just the 3rd minute. Julio César Furch nodded a long clearance on for Jonathan Rodríguez, who corralled the ball at the top of the box before laying it back off to Furch. The striker’s first attempt was blocked, but he collected his own rebound and made it 0-1.

Chivas de Guadalajara vs Pachuca – Jornada 8 Recap and Highlights

Chivas de Guadalajara’s home woes continued with a 1-3 loss to Pachuca. The result snaps a three-game winning streak for El Rebaño, while the Tuzos now have back-to-back wins and are unbeaten in five.

Chivas had the first good chance of the game in the 6th minute with a dangerous shot from outside the box by Ángel Zaldívar that crashed against the crossbar. But it was Pachuca who took the lead just minutes after that.

León vs Pumas UNAM – Jornada 8 Recap and Highlights

León took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Pumas UNAM came back for a 1-2 away win in this game that finished 10 vs 10. The result snaps a four-game winless streak for the universitarios, who are now unbeaten in two, while La Fiera saw their two-game winning streak halted.

The game started off at a fast pace, with early chances at both ends, but it was the hosts who took the lead in the 14th minute. José Rodríguez send in a cross for Luis Montes, whose volleyed effort beat Alfredo Saldívar to make it 1-0.

Tigres UANL vs Atlas – Jornada 8 Recap and Highlights

Atlas took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Tigres UANL came back for a 3-1 win. The result keeps the Rojinegros winless this season, although they have now at least managed to get on the scoresheet, while the universitarios extended their unbeaten streak to three games.

The night started off perfectly for the visitors, who snapped their season-long scoreless streak in just the 2nd minute. Andrés Andrade received the ball in midfield, beat Jesús Dueñas, Jorge Torres Nilo, and Hugo Ayala, and then sent his low shot between Nahuel Guzmán’s legs to make it 0-1 for Atlas.

Cruz Azul vs Veracruz – Jornada 8 Recap and Highlights

Cruz Azul kept their unbeaten season going with a comprehensive 4-1 victory against Veracruz. The result keeps La Máquina perfect at home in the Apertura 2018, while the Tiburones Rojos have now lost three of their last four.

Cruz Azul had the better of the early chances, with Milton Caraglio in particular keeping Veracruz’s defense on their toes. Elías Hernández also had a dangerous opportunity with his volleyed attempt in the 17th minute, but his shot was ultimately off target.

Monterrey took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Puebla came back for a 2-1 win. The result is a second straight home win for the Poblanos, while the Rayados remain winless in two.

The visitors started the game off well and they had the first chance of the game in the 6th minute. John Stefan Medina played in Dorlan Pabón, but his shot went straight to goalkeeper Nicolás Vikonis.

Tijuana vs Necaxa – Jornada 8 Recap and Highlights

A late goal gave Tijuana the 1-0 victory against Necaxa on Friday night. The result snaps a six-game winless streak for the Xolos, while the Rayos remain winless in five.

Both teams came out attacking, with chances at either end early on. But the better of the chances fell to the hosts. In the 22nd minute, Fabián Castillo’s shot was saved by Hugo González, but the rebound fell to Erick Torres, only for González to react and make a second save in quick succession.
