Apertura 2019 Week 8 Standings & Statistics

Querétaro remained in first place with their 1-1 draw with Puebla, while Veracruz remained in last after falling 1-0 to Monarcas Morelia.

There are no unbeaten teams remaining after América fell to Atlas, while Veracruz is the lone winless team remaining.

Veracruz’s loss kept them in last place in the Tabla de Cociente as well, while relegation rivals FC Juárez and San Luis won and Querétaro and Chivas de Guadalajara drew.

Atlas vs América – Jornada 8 Recap & Highlights

Despite a late red card, Atlas earned a 3-0 victory against América. The result snaps a three-game winless streak for the Rojinegros, while the Águilas suffered their first loss of the Apertura 2019 season.

In the first half, Atlas controlled the majority of possession, but it was América that had the better chances. In the 14th minute, Renato Ibarra went one-on-one with the keeper but wasted the opportunity; later, Atlas thought they should’ve had a penalty for handball on Paul Aguilar, but after VAR review the protests were waved away.

Monarcas Morelia vs Veracruz – Jornada 8 Recap & Highlights

Monarcas Morelia beat Veracruz by the minimum difference to extend the Tiburones Rojos’ winless streak to 34 games. The result keeps the michoacanos unbeaten in three while Veracruz has now lost six in a row.

Veracruz, under the interim direction of José Luis González after the renunciation of Enrique Meza, came out attacking as they looked to snap their record-setting winless run, but Morelia quickly took control of the ball and the game. They had a number of chances to open the scoring, but it ultimately took quite a while to find the breakthrough.

Disciplinary Report: Clausura 2019 Week 8

The Disciplinary Committee has suspended four players in the aftermath of this weekend’s Jornada 8 games.

José Juan Macías of León, Roberto Meráz of Monarcas Morelia, and Santiago García of Toluca were all given one-game suspensions for serious foul play, while Idekal Domínguez of Pumas UNAM was suspended for receiving two yellow cards in the same game.

Tigres UANL moved into first place with their 0-1 win against Atlas, while Querétaro remained in last despite their 3-0 victory against Monarcas Morelia.

Monterrey remains the only unbeaten team, while Veracruz is now the only winless one after Querétaro’s victory.

In the relegation standings, Veracruz remained in last place in the Tabla de Cociente with their 1-1 draw with Cruz Azul, while relegation rival Lobos BUAP lost.

Santos Laguna vs Toluca – Jornada 8 Recap and Highlights

Santos Laguna closed out Jornada 8 with a comprehensive 4-0 victory against 10-man Toluca. The result is a second straight win for the Laguneros, who remain unbeaten at home this season, while the Diablos Rojos have now lost two in a row and are winless in six.

Santos came out attacking and they had a good chance in the very first minute, only for Alfredo Talavera to intervene. But the keeper couldn’t do anything to stop Diego Valdés’s precise free kick in the 4th minute as the hosts took the early 1-0 lead.

In a game that finished 10 vs 10, León picked up a 1-3 away win against Pumas UNAM. The result extends La Fiera’s winning streak to five games, while the universitarios saw their three-game unbeaten streak halted.

León started the game off better and immediately began threatening a goal. In the 6th minute, Luis Montes hit the crossbar; then Ángel Mena played in José Macías, but he couldn’t get his shot away.

Necaxa took the lead but couldn’t hold it as they fell 1-2 to Tijuana. The result is a second straight win for the Xolos, who are unbeaten in four, while the Rayos have now lost two in a row and are winless in three.

The hosts came out attacking as they looked to keep their home unbeaten streak alive, and both Martín Barragán and Ángel Sepúlveda were active in attack, but Manuel Gibrán Lajud stopped everything that got to him.

Pachuca vs Chivas de Guadalajara – Jornada 8 Recap and Highlights

Pachuca remained perfect at home this season with a 3-1 victory against Chivas de Guadalajara. The result keeps the Tuzos unbeaten in five while El Rebaño saw their three-game unbeaten streak halted.

Pachuca came out attacking and they had the first chance of the game in the 3rd minute, when Óscar Murillo got his head to a corner kick, but Raúl Gudiño made the save. Then, Raúl López played in Franco Jara, but Jair Pereira made a timely intervention in defense.
