Lobos BUAP snapped a five-game winless streak with a 0-1 away win against Veracruz. The result is a second straight defeat for the Tiburones Rojos, who dropped into last place in the relegation standings with the loss.
With both teams heavily involved in the relegation fight, there was a lot at stake for both sides. Nevertheless, there were few chances of note in the first half. Daniel Villalva looked the most dangerous for Veracruz while Emanuel Herrera had the best chance for the licántropos shortly before halftime.
Toluca scored three times in five minutes as they earned a 3-2 victory against Querétaro. The result keeps the Diablos Rojos unbeaten at home this season while the Gallos Blancos are winless in five.
Toluca started off attacking from the opening whistle and they had their first good chance in just the 3rd minute. From a corner kick, Fernando Uribe put the ball on frame, only to be denied by Tiago Volpi. Two minutes later, Alexis Canelo had a good shot go wide.
Puebla took the lead but couldn’t hold it as they drew 1-1 with Necaxa. The result leaves the Poblanos unbeaten in two but winless in four while the Rayos are winless in two.
Puebla took advantage of a defensive miscue to open the scoring in the 22nd minute. Christian Marrugo sent a cross into the box that defender Mario de Luna failed to deal with. The ball fell nicely for Lucas Cavallini, who brought it down on his chest and fired past Marcelo Barovero to make it 0-1 for the visitors.
Pumas UNAM took the lead but couldn’t hold it as they drew 1-1 with Chivas de Guadalajara. The result leaves El Rebaño winless at home this season but unbeaten in four overall, while the universitarios ended a four-game losing streak but remain winless in five.
Chivas had the better of the run of play to start and they generated several dangerous chances. The clearest came in the 23rd minute, when Oswaldo Alanís sent a good cross into the box for Ángel Zaldívar, but Alfredo Saldívar was there to make the save.
Monterrey remained unbeaten this season and perfect at home with a 2-1 victory against Atlas. The result keeps the Rayados top of the table while the Rojinegros are now winless in six.
Monterrey created chances from the beginning as the highest-scoring attack in the league looked to find the breakthrough. Rogelio Funes Mori was particularly active, and in the 7th minute it looked like he would open the scoring as Monterrey earned a penalty kick after a foul in the box by José Madueña.
León earned their first home win of the season with a comfortable 3-1 defeat of Pachuca. The result gives La Fiera back-to-back victories while extending the Tuzos’ losing streak to three games.
It didn’t take the hosts long to take the lead. In the 5th minute, Andrés Mosquera sent a cross into the box for Mauro Boselli, whose header made it 1-0. That goal was Boselli’s hundredth career goal for León.
Cruz Azul came from behind to beat 8-man Santos Laguna 2-1. The result keeps La Máquina unbeaten this season while Santos is now winless in two.
The game started off at a good pace, with both teams going on the offensive as they looked for the opening goal. In the 12th minute, the visitors took the lead through Julio César Furch, who headed home a cross from Djaniny to make it 0-1 for Santos.
América took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Tijuana came back for a 1-1 draw. The result keeps the Xolos unbeaten in six, although it ends their four-game winning streak, while the Águilas are unbeaten in two.
The first 15 minutes were even as the Xolos and Águilas felt each other out, but then the pace began to pick up. The hosts had the first good chance when Gustavo Bou pressured Edson Álvarez, whose intended clearance ended up heading for his own goal; however, Agustín Marchesín was able to make the save to keep the game 0-0.
Both teams had the lead at one time or another, but in the end Monarcas Morelia and Tigres UANL had to settle for a share of the spoils as they drew 3-3. The result keeps both teams unbeaten in four, although the tie also ended Morelia’s three-game winning streak.
The hosts started the game off well and in the 17th minute they earned a penalty kick after Jürgen Damm was called for a handball in the box. Raúl Ruidíaz stepped up to take the spot kick, only to see it saved by Nahuel Guzmán. However, the rebound fell to Diego Valdés, whose shot was inadvertently turned into his own net by Jesús Dueñas. The 19th-minute own-goal gave the michoacanos the 1-0 lead.
Toluca vs Querétaro – 1:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Toluca (4th) drew 0-0 with Santos Laguna last weekend to remain unbeaten in two but winless on the road this season. The Diablos Rojos will look to get back to winning ways when they return home to the Estadio Nemesio Diez, where they are unbeaten in the Apertura. Toluca has been inconsistent this season, though; they’ve scored three goals in multiple games but have also been shutout four times; they’ve posted four clean sheets but have also given up four goals in one game.
As for Querétaro (12th), the Gallos Blancos fell 1-2 to León last weekend to remain winless in four. They’re unbeaten on the road this season, though, and they’ll look to get back to winning ways when they visit Toluca in this one. Querétaro is averaging less than a goal a game, but they’ll look to take advantage of Toluca’s inconsistent defending here.
