Liga MX is going on hiatus due to the COVID-19 coronavirus epidemic, and Cruz Azul will go into the break in first place after their victory against América, while Monterrey will prop up the table after their draw against Chivas.

Monterrey remains the only winless team in the Clausura.

Disciplinary Report: Apertura 2019 Week 9

The Disciplinary Committee has suspended seven players and one coach and fined a player in the aftermath of this weekend’s Jornada 9 games.

The standout suspension goes to Miguel Layún of Monterrey, who was given a two-game suspension for violent conduct.

The other six players were all suspended for one game: Francisco Córdova of América, José Esquivel of FC Juárez, Francisco Acuña of Puebla, and Aldo Cruz of Tijuana all for serious foul play, and Luis Quiñones of Tigres UANL and Jorge Segura of Atlas for receiving two yellow cards in the same game.

Apertura 2019 Week 9 Standings & Statistics

Necaxa moved into first place with their 0-2 victory against Monterrey, while Veracruz remained in last despite drawing Cruz Azul 0-0.

Veracruz remains the only winless team.

Veracruz remained in last place in the Tabla de Cociente as well, while relegation rivals San Luis and Chivas de Guadalajara won and FC Juárez lost. Querétaro had a bye.

Santos Laguna vs Pachuca – Jornada 9 Recap & Highlights

Pachuca took a two-goal lead but failed to hold it as Santos Laguna came back for a 2-2 draw. The result keeps the Laguneros unbeaten at home this season and unbeaten in three overall while the Tuzos remain winless in three.

The game started off perfectly for the visitors, who took the lead in just the 3rd minute. Gustavo Cabral headed the ball into an empty net after Jonathan Orozco came off his line but failed to get the ball; 0-1 Pachuca.

Toluca vs Monarcas Morelia – Jornada 9 Recap & Highlights

Toluca’s struggles continued with a 0-2 home loss to Monarcas Morelia. The result is a second straight loss for the Diablos Rojos and keeps them winless in three, while the michoacanos have now won two in a row and are unbeaten in four.

The game started off evenly, with neither team able to dominate. Chances were few and far between in the first half, although what there was tended to go Morelia’s way. Toluca’s first opportunity of note didn’t come until the 40th minute, and their best opportunity – when Aníbal Chalá went one-on-one with Sebastián Sosa – was wasted.

América vs Pumas UNAM – Jornada 9 Recap & Highlights

It was honors even in the Apertura 2019 Clásico Capitalino as América and Pumas UNAM played out a 1-1 draw. The result keeps the Águilas unbeaten at home this season, but also keeps them winless in four overall, while the universitarios remain unbeaten in two.

The game took an early turn for the worse for the hosts as Francisco Córdova was sent off in just the 17th minute after a studs-up tackle on Juan Pablo Vigón, leaving América to play the majority of the game with just 10 on the field.

León vs FC Juárez – Jornada 9 Recap & Highlights

FC Juárez took the lead but couldn’t hold it as León came back for a 3-1 victory. The result keeps La Fiera unbeaten in five while the Bravos have now lost four of their last five.

León are typically hard to beat at home, and FC Juárez made things harder on themselves with an early red card. In the 27th minute, José Esquivel was sent off for a foul on Jean Meneses, leaving the visitors to play down a man for more than an hour.

Chivas de Guadalajara vs Atlas – Jornada 9 Recap & Highlights

Chivas de Guadalajara took the bragging rights in the Apertura 2019 edition of the Clásico Tapatío with a 1-0 victory against 10-man Atlas. The result keeps El Rebaño unbeaten in two while the Rojinegros saw their three-game unbeaten streak halted.

The hosts started the game off strongly and kept the ball largely in Atlas’s defensive third. Their first chance came in the 7th minute through Dieter Villalpando, but his shot was easily saved by Camilo Vargas. In the 11th minute, Villalpando created a dangerous opportunity that Isaác Brizuela was unable to convert.
