World Cup Qualifying: Mexico vs USA – Recap and Highlights

Mexico remained unbeaten but left fans frustrated as they came from behind to draw 1-1 with the United States on Sunday night.

The quick turnaround, with this game moved up due to Mexico’s upcoming participation in the Confederations Cup, resulted in a number of changes to both starting lineups. Nevertheless, the game started at a high intensity and there were a number of fouls in the opening minutes. Carlos Salcedo was perhaps lucky to remain on the field after nailing Bobby Wood with an elbow during a 3rd minute aerial challenge.

Then, in the 6th minute, Michael Bradley silenced the crowd in the Azteca when he won the ball in midfield, saw Memo Ochoa off his line, and chipped the keeper from distance to give the U.S. an extremely rare lead on Mexican soil.

World Cup Qualifying: Mexico vs Honduras – Recap and Highlights

Mexico remained in first place in the Hexagonal standings with a 3-0 victory against Honduras. The win also keeps El Tri unbeaten in qualifying, while the Catrachos now have just one victory in five games.

Honduras came to the Estadio Azteca looking to sit back, defend, and escape with a goalless draw, but Mexico’s quality made that an unlikely proposition. It did take El Tri a while to open the scoring, but they looked dangerous from the beginning as they created a number of early chances.

Mexico has confirmed their 29-man roster for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Honduras and the U.S.

In addition to those departures, the injured José de Jesús Corona was replaced by Rodolfo Cota.

The complete 29-man roster is as follows:

World Cup Qualifying: Trinidad and Tobago vs Mexico – Recap and Highlights

In a closer game than they were perhaps expecting, Mexico earned a victory by the minimum difference against Trinidad and Tobago to remain unbeaten in World Cup qualifying. The result keeps Mexico at the top of the table while dropping T&T into last.

The hosts had the better of play in the first half, and in the 32nd minute, T&T thought they had taken the lead. However, Joevin Jones’s would-be goal from a fast break was controversially disallowed after a dubious offside call and the game remained 0-0.

The Mexican national team has arrived in Trinidad and Tobago for their World Cup qualifying game, but neither Rafael Márquez nor Jürgen Damm made the trip.

Damm suffered an injury late in Friday’s game against Costa Rica, and after evaluation it was determined that the muscle strain would keep him out of Tuesday’s qualifier. Damm has returned to Monterrey to start treatment with his club.
